If Watkins was our first choice, we would have made the offer as soon as the window opened. The fact that we are going for him late in the window is only because none of our other preferences worked out and we are running out of time now. This also likely means we will sign another striker in the Summer.
As for Watkins, I don’t mind him but not as our only striker. Watkins is not a long term solution, neither is he at the level an Arsenal striker should be. So if we have another target in mind for the Summer, someone younger, with a higher ceiling, then Watkins would be a good option. Anyway, sounds like this is dead. Oh well, we tried.

Emery said Villa don’t want to sell Watkins. Doesn’t mean they won’t. Reports suggesting we are putting in a second higher bid. This could get messy if Watkins pushes for a move. Seems unlikely though.
No chance in hell Villa sell both of their strikers this close to the window closing. This one is over.

Crazy to think that Simakan, Veiga and Duran could all end up playing together in Saudi of all places. Wasn’t it last summer that we were linked with the former two?
They talked on CL MOTD that Emery might not want to but Villa might not get that kind of money for Watkins again and as a business decision the board might want to accept any improvement on our opening bid
