The only reasonable argument I’ve heard is that Ollie Watkins is apparently top of the list for most clear-cut chances missed in the league this season.
Whilst Havertz is at #6th of #7th. Not sure if true, but I heard it on the Arsenal section of TalkSpot earlier today.
In the PL, Watkins has 10 goals and 5 assists. Havertz has 8 goals and 2 assists.
It’s becoming clearer to me that our main target was Sesko and we sought to try to do a deal for him…we’ve then turned to Watkins when it became clear Sesko was not available. I think it has also only become clearer that Villa need to sell, later in this window. £60m though isn’t that much in todays market.
Yeah I know and agree with you on that…I think PL is a good starting point though as a benchmark.
He can and I maintain that all the strikers we have been linked with would be a punt. I still think that Sesko would be our best bet, but ultimately no guarantee that he would work out for us. Watkins is proven at this level, so I would feel confident that he would get goals for us.
Problem with any Watkins deal is it is definitely gonna be coming off our summer budget. I’d rather us have that and go for a better target in the summer.
Sky Sports saying tonight that one of their sources have said that Aston Villa approached Arsenal over the sale of Ollie Watkins. Pundits suggesting Arsenal must have had some encouragement to make a bid for the player.
Sky pundits also suggesting that the Arsenal bid was around the £40m mark, not the £60m bid as reported. £60m or thereabouts is the fee that Villa were reportedly willing to accept for Watkins.
If that’s the case, the door seems to be open still…
We’ve had this chances missed argument a thousand times on OA btw. That’s not showing that someone’s a good striker.
Just go over the years, there’s usually a correlation of the league’s top scorers usually topping these.
It’s weird to say given what the stat implies but if anything it’s a sign that the striker does well to find plenty of chances.
