I’m definitely happier with the 45M bid.
I was seriously disappointed with the club valuing Watkins so highly (by Romano’s reports).
He’s a solid player, but I’m not happy with us spending a good chunk of our budget on a relatively limited 29 year old.

60m is already a very high amount for a 29 year old.
if they want more, they can just fuck off.
40m (if that is true), is a realistic price.
I understand Villa don’t want to sell both of their strikers in January, but if we got reject it is not the amount we bidded.
It’s not that it’s so much about the money or age. It’s more about the fact he would probably be our starting striker for the next 2-3 years at least, considering that 60M fee wouldn’t leave much space for another 9 in the near future.
Is he good enough to be that leading striker? Nahh, I don’t think so. Doesn’t lack much but he’s simply not up there.
You would mostly expect goals from him, he doesn’t offer more than Havertz in the build up (probably less). As a goalscorer he’s good but not elite. Best goalscoring seasons in the league with 19, 15, 14 goals don’t really sound amazing (that’s roughly Havertz’ range).

I still don’t understand the hate towards this potential deal. Watkins would be a great addition for us. PL proven and would score goals for us. Reasonable fee. What’s not to like?
