you also have to take into account the number of chances created for Kai. Watkins would have definitely scored more than 3 goals if he had the same supply as Kai. Just my two cents.
Valid point. He’d be better than Kai but still not good enough to be THE striker at Arsenal. I’d be surprised if we go back for him with a higher bid.
Not so sure about that, well, for this season anyway
His xg numbers are actually worse than Havertz’
Watkins isn’t finishing like he did last season
@Darkseid answered your question.
Watkins does not live up to the xG.
To say Watkins not having the chance that Kai had, Kai’s usage on the field is more of a glue guy up front than an out and out striker people thought.
Did you see Watkins drifting to the right to pull defenders out? Or play as midfield and pop into the box as second striker? Nope.
Kai was never clinical, but it was just getting worse in the past two months for whatever reason. It was overblown for 3 or 4 matches. Other than that he is doing a good job for us overall.
I don’t buy your theory that Watkins will score more because he could have better teammates around. At Villa, he is the go to guy up front and his teammates provided sufficient opportunities for him already.
Can I say if he gets more chances he will miss more because he is underperforming his xG?
I asked my senior-most cat (who watches a bit of football) whether;
a) Ollie Watkins is joining.
b) He represents good value.
c) He will score more goals.
Using a meow for yes and a blank “when the fuck am I getting breakfast stare” for no.
a) Yes.
b) Yes.
c) Yes but she then started licking her arse.
She’s rarely wrong. Though all three answers could have been “Get out of bed and feed me you lazy bastard”.
Sitting with a villa fan at work and got talking about Watkins. Abit concerning that his words were, “he’s a great player on his day but his finishing lets him down”
Maybe we should just save the money and go BIG for Isak in the summer.
We’ve got some of those already so maybe leave it.
I think Isak will be near impossible. Even in the summer.
There you go
Same. I can’t see under what circumstances besides PSR or player’s desire would Newcastle ever consider letting him go.
A striker of his ability is probably £120m in today’s market, especially for a club like Newcastle as he’s instrumental for them.
Those are the exact circumstances that Newcastle are facing
oh if that’s true then perhaps his valuation might come down a bit for us.
Maybe it’s best to wait till Summer to get him instead of Watkins in that case.
Yeah that’s why I’m keen to wait. No way it’d happen now but in the summer, they may be more open, particularly if they can’t offer CL football.
Yeah, that, plus Isak will be hungry for a bigger club eventually. He’s surely aware he has outgrown Newcastle at this point.
I don’t see why Arsenal would be a bad move for him at all, not that he can’t do better. Would be mad to rule us out.
And why would it be impossible for us to make that kind of move, considering we played 100M for Rice? And most are very happy with that price.
I think a generational striker talent like Isak, who would be transformational for us, is easly worth that.
Newcastle could easily sell Gordon or Bruno to get out of PSR jail. They won’t sell Isak on the cheap.
I think getting Isak and Zubimendi is probably the best bet for us in the summer.
It’s a lot of money, but I think we can get it done.
Can everyone please stop mentioning Isak?
He’s not coming here, that boat sailed. He’ll spend another season with Newcastle before one of the rich clubs buy him. Real Madrid probably.
We will never be able to afford him, we have to be smarter than the really rich clubs and not let another Isak to slip from our grasp.
Just stop it with the Isak to Arsenal nonsense, because that’s what it is.
I’d like us to sign Isak. Just thought it’d be worth mentioning here specifically.
The Wishlist is the better place. You can indulge your dreams and cast aside pragmatism in that thread.
