Yeah I’m not sure he’s 2nd or 3rd choice tbh, I think it’ll ultimately come down to matchups and game situations and what the boss sees as best for that, don’t think we have a locked no 1 in that position.
Bottom line is Arteta rates Zinny and what he brings to this Arsenal team a lot more than your average Arsenal fan.
Perhaps. But if Arteta is true to his word about the expectations that he has from his players, then he’ll realise that Zinchenko is costing us dearly lately. Arteta doesn’t seem the type to keep carrying players who are costing us points like Wenger did.
His patience will wear thin eventually, as it has with Ramsdale, Jesus (hence all the striker links) and Gabriel XL (during pre-season),
If Tomi was fit, I can’t see Zinny playing vs. Liverpool. Maybe late 2nd half if the game was going swimmingly well.
Absolutely, Zinchenko and Partey seem to be exceptional at playing against the low-block.
For those games; especially against the lower-half of the league table I wouldn’t worry too much about Zinchenko’s defensive frailties. Though I see him more as a midfielder anyway.
We already have Timber. During pre-season and against City he was playing as a left sided inverted full back. Seems much more defensively solid than Zinny. Against tougher opposition he’ll start.
Super small sample size. The truth is we have no idea how he’ll come back from his injury. I agree with you that he’s coming for that number one spot but it would be ludicrous to expect him to do it any time soon.
Well what do you know, another mistake from this guy leading to a goal. I’m rapidly losing interest in how well he can progress the ball when he’s become an absolute liability at the back.
Bottom line today is that we lost against West Ham because we didn’t convert our chances…plus awful VAR decision IMO based on the Sky replay. Zinny makes a good scapegoat, but reality is that lots of players didn’t have a good game tonight. I thought Trossard was really poor in the No.8 position.
Sure we didn’t convert but we also allowed them to play the way they wanted to play (i.e. : super bunkered) because they had a lead to protect. Zinchenko is far from the only one who disappointed tonight but it’s so clear that he’s a weak link at this point. Him losing the ball lead to their goal. There were other mistakes along the way but I think this just might be who he is. He’ll have a few big mistakes every game. If we’re cruising 3-0 up, it doesn’t matter.
And it’s not like I’m blind to what he offers. In theory this would have been a good match for him. We’ll have all the ball, try to pick them apart, stuff like that. But like I said in the game thread, the entire left side turned in 0s tonight. Him, Trossard and Martinelli. They were all terrible.
The reaction to Zinchenko has been universally negative but watching that first half back, him and Odegaard were making things happen. Both Martinelli and Saka were guilty of being profligate when the ball there way. Martinelli in particular had some horrible touches of the ball.
Trossard was by far the biggest problem last night. We know/Zinch knows/Arteta knows/ everyone knows Zinch weaknesses. what we needed was Trossard and Gabriel to add cover for him…Trossard unfortunately did not track back, offering zero in defence and gave the ball away in attack. That made us miss Kai more than only for his attacking runs and aerial ability
