Noni Madueke (20)

Has zero end product. But Chelsea showed us that before but naturally we didn’t listen.

Wingers that can’t score or assist are pointless imo.

For me he’s been positive.

He’s not really getting that much chance regularly, was really unlucky to get that injury while Saka was out too. But when he gets it he usually creates trouble.

Did create that big chance for Zubi in the first half, some other good moves. He did well in the first half today. Did most of the work for that Gabriel goal against Bournemouth the other week, but didn’t get an assist.

I don’t think he’s as bad as many think now. It’s not that any of our forwards are firing on all their cylinders now either.

Our attacking play in general is a bit stifled. Our midfield isn’t as fluid as needed.
I don’t think he’s bad at all looking at the bigger picture. I’m pretty sure he could offer much more if our game was a bit more dynamic although I do want him to do better in terms of end product. Can be frustrating there no doubt and does dribble himself into some shit positions at times.

He was massively important early in the season when Saka was out but he hasn’t really come back from injury in form.

I don’t understand why his minutes have completely disappeared. He’s not even making the matchday squad anymore.

It won’t be long before his agent starts stirring things up in the media

I like his directness as well but let’s not forget Nwaneri and dowman are very direct.

He’s had his moments and contributed enough when he’s played but he does need to deliver more end product. He does all the hard work then fumbles the final ball.

Yeah I worry about both him and MLS. People wil say it’s fine they are young etc etc but agents will use anything to get a payday.

They’ve both gone from breakout stars of the team to barely backups. It’s survivable for now, I feel, but agree it won’t be long before we hear noise if it continues.

Think he’s been a good signing. Unfair to harshly judge him as he’s barely had a run of games.

Needs to work on his end product like many have mentioned. Also needs to work on his shooting, physical strength and maybe a develop a bit of nastiness.

But you have to love his directness. He can be a penalty winning machine if he’s a bit smarter given how he attracts defenders.

Should have had an assist in each of his last two appearances. Think he’s been good just clearly working harder defensively now than when we signed him

I think his mistake was taking Madueke off so early. We were good in the first half and Madueke was a big contributor to that. Far more direct than Saka was when he came on and more or less did nothing.

Madueke has 0 goals and 0 assists in 13 appearances in the PL. He does well, looks busy and looks dangerous but without actually doing much. 0.6xG and 1.5xA for the whole season in the league is …. not good.

I feel like in must win games you should always just play saka.

That all means nothing when looking at an individual game by itself, which is what I was talking about.

Our first half was quite strong and Madueke was a key part of that. Saka was largely ineffective when he came on outside of the one headed chance (which is not really his thing anyway).

If we are talking generally about who should start an important game, the answer is obviously Saka but no one is discussing that here as far as I can see.

2 of our three shots on target and what gave the opposition player man of the match came from Saka actions in the time he was on. The header and cutback to rice.

We started good and I like what Madueke was doing but also the last 15 mins of the first half and first 10 of the second half were probably our poorest periods in the match as well. Completely fine to change him at that point.

Edit: I’ve never looked at momentum statistic in matches before but this aligns with how I saw the match live, which is we had lost our way from a good start.

The best chance we had in the entire game came from Madueke. This obviously won’t be reflected if we just look at shots on target because the best chance was Martinelli missing an absolute sitter. There was also the chance when he slipped Zubi in behind.

Thought Noni was our biggest threat.

true but it was a shanked shot :joy:

Yeah, I thought Madueke was very good.
He was’t the guy to be subbed off looking at his performance but it’s normal he left the pitch knowing you have Saka in that position.

He’s the last of our attacking players/midfielders to be criticised after the last night’s performance.

Yeah, the rot had set in and momentum completely swung notts forest way by the time Saka entered the pitch.

Minutes wise though he’s only played about 6 games worth of PL football

Think Newcastle missed a trick not going all in for him once Mbeumo rejected them.

Noni would have thrived there. They have been linked with him before though, I wonder if he just never fancied a move there.
