A moments player is exactly what we lack. Saka is the closest thing we have but it’s not enough. Since the visual test of what he can do is not enough for some, let’s eye the numbers.
League stats 25/26:
Games 9 goals 2 assists 2
Games 8 goals 2 assists 2
One is being lauded as our pound for pound best signing in years and his output praised. The other is Nico ‘moments’ Williams. Will give you once guess which is which.
Yes the point is Trossard is the one with 9 games. Mr reliable output monster.
I don’t see why Nico should be dismissed when he’s putting up good enough numbers and is almost 8 years younger with room to improve. His ability to beat a man and create goals from nowhere would be highly valuable.
I haven’t watched a lot of him besides the Euros so going purely by his stats, he’s no better than Martinelli, and we all know how most of us feel about him.
He certainly has the ability but if he’s struggling to stay consistent in La Liga, he’s got no chance in the Premier League.
He plays for Athletic.. teams set up to neutralize him as he’s their best player by a mile.. double and triple teams when he gets the ball. Put him in a better team like say the Spanish national team and he shines.
Everything good he’s done so far here has been moments.
City and Palace come to mind. Newcastle was probably the game where he had the most. Probably his best game at Arsenal so far.
City I agree, palace he just happened to be where the ball fell in the box, could happen to anyone. Talking about creating moments from nowhere, Trossard is a better example. I think Nico is much more than a moments player but I was responding to the BS being posted and think we lack that trait as it is.
Anyway, must’ve been 80% of the forum hyped on Williams after the euros when we were linked now most seem sour on him for no reason.
16 G/A in 31 games pre euros
10 G/A in 29 games last year
4 G/A in 8 this year so far
Hardly some wild drop off so I don’t get it, he’s one of the top winger prospects in football. Certainly better than his ‘moments’ rival lazyboy leao.
For the hype that was created after the Euros, last season’s G/A was rather poor. So it was not so much about the drop off but rather the expectations being higher. He’s still young so there is obviously scope for him to improve. Let’s see how he goes this season.
Rodrygo, Leao, Semenyo are three that stand out. Nobody will agree, but if even take a cut priced Rashford as for all his flaws he’s a serious goal threat. My number one choice would be Alvarez.
Trossard, Martinelli, Eze, Jesus and Madueke are all good winger but none of them is one of Europe’s best wingers or even most dangerous wingers. If we had a world class left winger, think we’d be the most balanced team in Europe.
