There’s zero excuse on why the club didn’t bring anyone in January.
You could barely excuse them after Bukayo’s injury, that was no longer the case once Jesus(who was our starting striker at the time) got ruled out for the season.
We literally had players and the manager himself admitting publicly that we are short and need some help.
They’ve got zero room for failure in the summer for me. Any position that needs to be addressed has to be addressed.
And now after all that imagine those absolute garbage bullshit reports how club is amazed with Ayto’s work and considers to push him as the long term option lol
Those puff pieces were crazy. Pretty positive one of them tried to spin our inactivity as evidence of Ayto’s great work, and how that showed he won’t panic.
I reckon we had Olabe working for us behind the scenes but we haven’t announced no until the next accounting period. Look at who we are linked with and supposedly tied down…all known by/scouted by Olabe if i recall rightly.
I was fine with not spending big money on permanently signing an average forward but I can’t really see how we justify not getting anyone on loan. Kolo Muani and Asensio both options we could have taken up.
That said, the drab shit we served up against West Ham probably still happens even with a loan signing. Arteta is to blame for that element of the current situation. One of the most embarrassing performances I’ve seen from us when considering the context.
Pretty sure it’s EPL players. Even so, if we weren’t a bunch of clowns, we’d send Neto back and get someone else in. Neto is trash and I don’t really think it makes a difference having him or Setford playing if Raya was to be injured.
His other goal was also outstanding btw. https://x.com/tekkersfoot/status/1893669527042367949
Reminds me of Jesus against Sevilla. We don’t have that in our team.
The only two players capable of it are injured, one of them likely fucked for good. Nwaneri could be another but will need time.
That was a cracking goal by Williams. Still feels like he is the player that Arteta wants in the summer. Personally I’d still love Wirz. If we could have both, now that Musiala is clearly not going anywhere, we would be really cooking on gas next season.
I also keep looking Semenyo. I think he is also worthy of consideration in the summer. He is versatile too.
What about focusing on winning trophies in the here and now? All they had to do was to get someone on loan, even if it would cost us 5 million. We keep planning for the future, without delivering anything in the present. We are stuck in the endless cycle of “oh well, there’s always next season”.
No argument there. But I am more than prepared for an underwhelming window cause I just don’t have confidence in us getting it right, especially now that we have no proper Sporting Director.
A new player can lift the spirit and morale of a beleaguered team. Can’t ignore how much that can help a team. Maybe one new player would not have been enough for us in the end but for the club to just give up on this season like this is unbecoming of a so called big club.
Not sure how having a pragmatic, long-term and less knee-jerk opinion is having a howler.
The howlers were out of the pitch on Saturday, the service going forward was awful, maybe a striker could have helped but the problems start when we go over the halfway line at the moment. The rebuild is nowhere near finished but another top 4 finish given the context of the season is not shameful.
There are loads of takes atm. Lots have an element of truth but if Liverpool or Forest were playing without a striker for 4 months, I think they’d be in similar crisis to us. Man City are struggling with supposedly the best striker in the world.
