Lamar isn’t the right QB to push the fully guaranteed angle. His play and availability over the last 2 seasons doesn’t really warrant $250m fully guaranteed or a high proportion of his contract guaranteed long term.
The fact that he doesn’t have an agent does play a factor too, i’m sorry but it negligence if you’re a top QB and you don’t have one.
I think its just a fact the Watson was an anomaly that didn’t reflect the natural progression of the OB market. The Falcons for example weren’t offering that to Watson last year so they’re lack of interest in Lamar is somewhat logical.
It’s unlikely Burrow, Hurt or Herbert sign fully guaranteed deals. Mahomes was the guy who should have made that stand but he took a very team friendly deal
I’m not a fan by any stretch. I appreciate his achievements in the game, but knowing the Jets organization, they’ll get their man just in time for him to be in massive decline. If that’s the case, I’m more than happy to hate-watch my team for another one or two seasons, thus maintaining the status quo.
There’s definitely a camp of (very vocal) Ravens fans who believe that Lamar is being used as a puppet by the NFLPA to force the issue of guaranteed contracts.
panthers wanted a 1st and a 2nd for him when they were shopping him. WR was going to be the hardest position for us to sort and we did it, so very pleased.
No chance with JSN now but I don’t want him anyway unless its in 2nd round. Now we build those lines.
Personally, I’d still go Carter if he falls to 9.
Now let’s get Orlando Brown & maybe a Jones from Denver.
Ravens look like they’re attempting to clear some more cap space. I think EdC is waiting to see if anyone approaches Lamar with a deal and then he’ll match it.
On the one hand I feel bad for Lamar because I think he may have been poorly advised or overestimated the force with which ownership was always going to push back on fully guaranteed deals.
On the other hand, the Ravens as an organization have basically nothing going for them without Lamar so if he stays they have a chance to be relevant. If he leaves, it could take five to seven years before the team is playing meaningful December games again.
