Next manager

And that’s your reflection of the Emery appointment I take it? Why would people have low-football IQ’s for such an appointment?

My opinion of the Emery appointment was uninspiring and my reflection was even worse than my original opinion.

It’s just the way Arsenal fans seem to be, say we get Nuno most will be harping on about his record against the big 6, but will neglect the fact he’s a 5 at the back merchant that struggles to break down inferior opponents.

I don’t think Nuno inspires anything from many fans to begin with anyway. The only way I can see that happening is if he was hired as the next Arsenal manager, fans would naturally back him, talk him up and give him time to find his way with the team.

The Unai hire was a totally different concept at the time it happened. Given the unique circumstances in parting ways with a legacy manager in Arsene Wenger, it was only natural that a large majority of fans at the time we’re invested in the new world of Arsenal, despite him being a sideways move.

However, we’re now fully into the hiring and firing, revolving door scenario where most managers we hire will likely turn out duds until we find the right one.

This also gives us the conundrum of there always being two sides of one fanbase that deals in absolutes of being for or against any potential new hire.

No such things as a good or bad formation. Is Conte a 5 at the back merchant?

Besides, this is him at Wolves. You’d expect a team like that to struggle against sides sitting back.

What was he like at Valencia?

Pretty sure he played 4 at the back as I recall, 4-4-2 maybe? Worry is that he’s found this way of working at Wolves and might now be very loyal to it. Who knows. That’s what the interview process is for, of course…if only the people doing the interviewing for our club weren’t assclowns.

I don’t really understand this…you could justify a strange, delusional reaction like our fanbase had to our next hire too, with something like, “It was only natural that a large majority of fans at the time were invested in the new world of Arsenal after having watched absolutely dire football under a terrible managerial hire for the 2 years previous, and after having been under incompetent management for much of the last 10 years.”

Nuno or Howe to me are more interesting candidates than Rodgers. They don’t have the same level of excitement that a Poch or Arteta hiring would mean for me, but they do at least make you think there’s some potential there, and don’t have that ceiling that Rodgers has where you’re saying, ok, at best we’ve hired like the 4th or 5th best manager in the division, for a club that needs to gain a competitive advantage over its opponents.

A month is more than enough time to sort this. If we get the right guy in we can make a rally for CL football next season

Can’t wait to be underwhelmed in a months time

I agree and honestly I can’t stress how important it is that we sort this out quickly. The sooner we can get some one in the sooner we can start making the changes needed to get the Arsenal back to being the Arsenal.

If we can get the right guy in from now, then there’s the possibility he brings in a whole new back room staff (Allegri supposedly wanted 9!), Can identify the dead wood and move them on in January if possible and maybe make an addition to help us over the line for top four and or win the EL.

It would also be nice to see a manager who can bring the best out of players and help them improve, which all of three of Poch, Allegri and Rogers can and have done.

Pogba, Morata, Sturridge, Sterling, Suarez, Kane, Alli, Son etc… Just a few examples of players who have shone under those managers.

That seems to indicate someone who is out of work, doesn’t it?

I can already tell I’d rather Freddie stay than whoever we end up getting in.

Sounds like another aimless process, ready for some conman to come in and impress the fools with another useless PowerPoint

Looking forward to the lord’s podcast tomorrow

Does Ornstein present the podcast? I’d say he’s a terrible host. Probably answers his own questions.

No Mark Chapman does.

The podcast is actually called Chapman and Ornstein

Unfortunate name. Born 1973 though, his parents couldn’t have known.

He had one impressive season at Valencia I think, netting high 70s points with a quality GD.

Hahahahaha I was waiting for someone to bring up the conte eg when I said that about Nuno.

He’d be blind to not have any concerns.

I think if we are looking at an established name to take the job, that person will need some assurances from the board that certain players will be sold and quality replacements will be bought. I doubt our board will do that and so I am prepared for another underwhelming appointment. Wasn’t Arteta asking for a big transfer budget before we rejected him or at least those were the rumours. Can’t see us going for a big name honestly.

At this point in time, I have zero faith in this board to get their act together and make a good decision.

FWIW, last 5 years we have third highest net spend in EPL. We will never match Manchester clubs. But spending isn’t really an excuse these days.

Yes we have spent but IMO, any incoming manager of the reputation of a Poch or Allegri will want, at the very minimum, two new quality CBs, a replacement for Xhaka and maybe a new creative midfielder to replace Ozil. This is not including potential replacements Auba and Laca if they decide to not renew their contracts.

Don’t see the board sanctioning the budget needed for all that.

Glad we’re moving quick. Really need a game changer.
Can’t stress enough how this one has to be the right one.
Mess this one up and it’s wilderness years for the foreseeable future.
