I think they overhyped Calafiori as a midfielder really. Nothing about his performances so far suggests he could do a job as a CM.
Timber on the other hand, maybe. But I would be very surprised Arteta tries that for the first time in a game of this magnitude. I don’t think we ever tried him there, even in a friendly game.

Nah, once his confidence was there he was good wherever he played.
Our great 2024 form(after the Dubai trip) started with him playing in midfield, when we started playing twice a week again we were alternating with him in midfield and him as a striker and then in the last stretch he was mainly playing up top.
Now don’t get me wrong, the dude is clearly firstly considered a striker now but he is still an option in midfield when needed.
Arteta used him in midfield in preseason and when he was asked about it he said that he has the capacity to play both roles and given the options at the time(like the predicament now) we had to use him there.
He pulled him back into midfield twice already with the season underway.
Against Brighton he nearly scored another one(a chance that he created) and assisted Saka while playing in midfield.
Dude is just in the groove now. He’s honestly the least of my worries. Arteta could pull a Nagelsmann and use him at LB and he’ll probably still make an impact.
Him and Saka are our most in-form players currently.
3 months? why he gotta be out for 4 months man… 5 months that is basically half the season!
