Maybe it doesn’t. But giving someone a chance to learn the trade in their B-team, or in a relegation team, is far different then leaving a totally unproven former player in charge of a CL/EL aspiring team.
Yeah disagree… caretakers can do what they need to just to keep things from imploding and sometimes even players rally behind… its when things get so toxic and negative with management that you are forced to change.
If you don’t do caretaker, then you are forced into limited pool - in our case leading us to hire Arteta (2.5 year contract IIRC)… which was disastrous and set us back another 18 months… had we waited to summer and picked up a proper manager, we would absolutely be in much better shape today.
Anyway, the point is moot… just like in every walk of life/business, bad hires are deadly and expensive.
After having one absolutely useless inexperienced manager, I would hope that our board wouldn’t choose another.
Why would any top club choose a novice?
It doesn’t make sense.
It’s like having a hole in your roof that needs fixing, then going to the best roofing company and hiring the receptionist to come round and do the work, rather than the most experienced roofer.
Would you entertain a caretaker for now this season. I would just not from within.
I honestly think Bilic would get us till the summer. Decent coach and experienced enough to get something out of this squad.
You’re making the rule of two examples that nepotism is everywhere in football. I could have mentioned Seedorf at Milan or Vilanova at Barcelona.
That’s fine… I understood Freddie at the time b/c he knew the players, had a good relationship, and had a very strong relationship with the youngsters in particular and that seemed like a key component of our future competitiveness… so if we didn’t win anything that year but at least developed and integrated some of the young guys and held things together, that was about the best case scenario for me…
But yeah, if there was someone from the outside who was actually realistically available AND willing to come in as a caretaker (who the fck would?), then yeah maybe you go that route. IMHO any serious manager would say "fck off, don’t embarrass me with your caretaker offer".
FWIW I would take Billic if we could navigate a way to make that happen but commit nothing more than end of season to him.
Chelsea done it with Rafa and Hiddink tbf.
Yeah its not impossible and I don’t recall circumstances of those two - but Hiddink was basically in retirement, no? And came in as consultant with no desire to go beyond given his age, etc.
ANd Rafa - was unemployed at the time? And maybe they told him he would be given a chance? I’d have to go back and look.
Like I said, I’d be willing to give it a go if it could be worked out… I just think it is a lot harder to attract people under those circumstances and plenty of managers would dismiss it out of hand.
Yes it’s a long list.
Hahahaha. Cool bro.
I’m not sure if we were discussing the same thing, or if we even disagreed tbh ![]()
Just shows how bad we are…Utds shit manager taking his team into the top four, while our shit manager is dragging us into a relegation dogfight…Oh how sad…
Given our run of form in the last 10 games I feel it is lunacy if the club has not been talking with a preferred alternative, proven top level manager. Not confident though that they’re even thinking about it.
Arteta needs to learn fast if he’s to survive although there have been a few minutes in both the last 2 games where we started to attack with better energy and movement. I hope he can learn and improve a lot for as long as he’s here but he’s definitely made a fair few rookie mistakes in recent months and it may be irreversible for him from here.
Hope we don’t cop out with a caretaker that doesn’t take us forward unless it’s someone like Allegri but whoever is manager in the next windows must really clear out all the shitty signings from the last 8 years. Easier said than done though given no one else wants our overpaid shitters and we certainly have a lot to clear out.
I’d like to leave a lot of things in 2020 lets make one of them this cunt.
Ole ‘im just happy to be here’ Gunnar Solsjkaer in a title race while this guy spending his time overanalyzing the 65th pass Holding gave to Leno, telling them to angle it 5 degrees north west west for improved kinetics
Also Ole’s taste in talents is unreal. Haaland, Sancho, Bellingham >>>> Cedric, Willian.
Ok so after Chelsea we have Brighton, WBA, Newcastle and Palace in the league, 4 bottom half teams like us.
Surely if he doesn’t pick up minimum 7 points from those 4 games it’s curtains ? After those 4 games we’ll be at the halfway point and if we only win 1 of them we will be precariously close to the bottom 3.
That statement could be used on the players tbf as well.
I rarely say oh my god, but this is a proper oh my god moment:
Does he see what happens in the fucking games? Baffling line of thought.
Oh ffs he’s a fucking David Icke football manager.
