Mesut Özil

Could have won the league if he didn’t repeatedly shit his pants in the back half of
2016.

Ozil wishes he still had Giroud to play with. Giroud is still his number 1 assist recipient despite Auba, Alexis and Laca all having extended play time with Ozil.

No amount a Arsenal salt will erase that

In hindsight, should we have gone all the way for Suarez instead of Ozil?
Love Ozil to bits but logic says yes. The team was already creative enough. Ramsey and Wilshere were entering their peak, Cazorla was around too.

Imagine Sanchez and Suarez in the same team. Wouldn’t matter how we play one of them would single handedly win the game.

It would of been great while it lasted but probably still would have got shit fees for both and ended up signing lacazette for 50mill as his replacement anyway.

You’d expect a title in 13/14 or 15/16 with Suarez.

We’d probably still find a way to bottle it

So it’s a 6-month loan until his contract is over, apparently.

With the club continuing to pay his full wage until then? :weary:

That’s what they’re negotiating about now

Ozil was on the peak of his powers his first four seasons here. Which coinceded with Giroud leading the line. After that he fell off. You’re implying he fell off because he lost Giroud? I don’t believe that.

Calum’s point stands. Giroud was mediocre compared to these two guys and one of the positions, together with centre back and centre midfielder and right winger, we needed to get better on. Which we obviously did too late.

I don’t think that is even a debate. Come summer 2013 our front four was Walcott, Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski. One of Walcott, Giroud and Podolski definitely needed replacing for Cazorla.

I do think that the bump Ozil gave this club when we signed him has become underrated. It was a massive deal at the time. Wenger just utterly failed to build on that.

I’m going to miss him :sob:. Especially since this team doesn’t have any flair whatsoever anymore.

He was so good to watch at his peak and one of the best number 10s in recent PL and European history.

I didn’t appreciate having Cazorla, Ozil & Sanchez playing together enough.
We cribbed about not having world class players but man did we have some with extreme footballing abilities

It’s a shame three great creative players like this had Giroud rather than Aubameyang playing in front of them.

If Wenger had been more decisive he would have bought Aubameyang for about 40m couple of seasons before they wasted 60m on Lacazette and, not only would we have had the best attacking line up in the PL, we would have saved a fortune and been real title contenders.

Ozil is still head and shoulders above anyone in our current squad. The club should explain why he wasn’t registered for the PL.

Yeah it’s weird we’ve had the circus for so long now. Surely it can’t be as straight forward as “Ozil doesn’t train hard enough” I mean, come on…

The reality is the club don’t have to explain anything to us.

The feel Özil has for the game is what I’ll miss. There’s simply no other like him in the modern game.

Although we focus on 15/16 as the biggest missed opportunity in terms of titles, Ozil’s first season in 13/14, Arsenal were 2nd after 27 games and a point behind Chelsea, but Ozil fell to injury. He missed 7 games and Arsenal won 2, drew 2 and lost 3 times in that spell, ending their title challenge.
