Matteo Guendouzi

His haircut is the best thing about him tbh.

What ruthless cunt removed his squad number :joy:

Cmon Bizz, he’s embracing his curls. As an owner of curly hair myself, I feel like I have to stick up for him there.

I expect we’ll end up accepting something like £20-25m for him.

We’re in a pretty untenable position so I think our hand will be forced unfortunately.

It’s kind of telling that we heard all those rumors about 60, 70, 80m valuations but when push comes to shove the only person who might want him is Emery. Being a precocious talent is one thing but being a precocious talent who can’t be bothered to live up to it is something else all together. I wonder if this is a situation where everyone overplayed their hand.

Certainly @Castiel did

I didn’t expect Arteta to come in and absolutely shit on his market value. I still think we’ve destroyed the best market asset we’ve had in years which just isn’t crafty. We always go on about being private in the market but how about keeping our feuds a little more private and try and actually shift these players without being bent over a barrel.

Not possible in today’s world mate. Also, him not being picked after that Brighton game was a pretty obvious clue that something was not right between him and Mikel.

We do it with other things like our transfer budget, granted poorly. I just don’t think we have to make things like Ozil and Guendou so public, could easily have made the Guendouzi spat look less serious and flogged him for more in summer.

Ozil has been ongoing for too long but even then, we can’t negotiate for shit because we back ourselves into such a needless corner all the time.

I like Guen as a player and I think he has huge potential, if he’s willing to put down the effort that is. Now he’s just ruining it Nasri-style, with a poor attitude and some kind of pride he hasn’t have the age to get away with. I’m however not sure Arteta has handled this particularly well from his side either.

Totally with you @Castiel. Arthur has been beefing with Messi but they kept it under wraps. So many occasions where players are not on good terms with their clubs and they play it cool to the general public to make sure buyers don’t have leverage.
With Guendouzi it has been ridiculous, we plummeted his market value, as if COVID-19 didn’t already fuck things up.
I doubt we can even get 30m for him now.

Wenger used to give pseudo injuries to players

Problem is what can Arteta do? He wants to discipline the player for behaving unprofessionally and badly. In this social media age where every player has a “posse” of leeches, there is no way this isn’t going out plus Guen has shown how immature he is by refusing to budge when he is in the wrong. If Arteta doesn’t punish him, then the rest of the players will also lose respect for him and that will essentially be the end of his managing career. Got to lay down the law early as first impressions last, players will think twice about fucking around now and will greatly benefit Arteta and the club in the long wring which is worth more than £20/30 million we lose on a potential sale.

I feel like that can all be done in private, I don’t think it adds anything to Arteta’s leadership qualities if we all know Guendou was acting the twat and has been dealt with. Honestly I wouldn’t have a problem with it but when it’s one of the few players you can actually get a nice return on and there’s like 3 weeks of a broken season left, you keep the public/media out of it and flog him in summer.
