He tracked the ball well. As I posted before, he is good in the air and a good shot stopper. Arsenal signing him was curious because he isn’t the most assured with the ball at his feet, which is how Arteta wants to play.
For whatever reason, he has generally played very well for the nat’l team–as opposed to some gaffes early on for Arsenal.
Worthy back-up. As I said in the matchday thread, he sure does like coming off his line. Lee Dixon drew attention to it on commentary and so far it has yielded good results…
Hard for the top teams to find good backups as it’s hard to give them any significant game time but Turner has shown he is a good option for us and probably helps this is his first foray into European football.
Had a voice out there. World cup has given him some valuable game time and he doesn’t look out of place.
Confidence has grown and taking his opportunities well.
Turner is genuinely pretty incredible at penalties. Saved 14 of 29 in his career now after a big performance in the Gold Cup (I know I know) shootout last night. Still not a huge sample but that’s a better record than Emi Martinez, Alisson, or just about any other keeper you can think of that is known for being a good penalty stopper. If we ever end up in a shootout, I think Arteta would be foolish to stick with Ramsdale if he has a sub left to put on Turner in the 120th minute.
