Matheus Cunha

Kudus is available for similar money apparently. I like Cunha a lot though.

Any chance this is just a ploy by the players agent to get a better contract?

He’s an intetesting player, but I wouldn’t go for him, even for around 50M, let alone for 60-70+M some are reporting.

Would make sense only if you expect him to keep this production rate he had only for half the season and basically become a 20+ league goals striker. You can’t exclude that, but that would be a massive gamble at this moment (when you look at his whole career).

I would see him as a 9 for us. I don’t think he has the atletcism and the body to play as a winger week and week out, go up and down, track back. He would get destroyed. Roaming around there ocassionally is a different thing. People take the supposed versatility of some players far too easily.

If we are after a 9, I’d rather obviously have Gyokeres who wouldn’t cost much more, or go all out on Isak, guys like that. Going big on Cunha would be quite weird.

As a winger there are also guys who are much more suitable and equipped for that specific role.

Think I keep saying the same thing! I’d prefer Eze or Kudus, but Cunha is a powerful dribbler. We don’t really have any of those. Great ball carrier.

I can’t see this happening at all unless Saka is out for the season and we may then be forced into signing a forward.

Great dribbler and ball carrier yes, but what we need are goals. The thing we need to improve is our box efficiency and converting chances. Cunha doesn’t do that.

I agree that we need more productivity. We also need more ways to break down opponents. Our play is far too predictable.

My love of Martinelli is there for all to see but him running into bling alleys or Havertz passing sideways from the wing makes the allure of forward with a bit of magic exciting.

The things we need to improve is the chances creation from midfield and speed up our attack.

Our conversion is not as bad as people think.

A winger than can create something is more important at this moment.
Ode alone is not enough for this department.

I agree, but Cunha doesn’t achieve that for us. Spending the sort of money suggested above, means we will not be able to sign a transformational player - that’s what we need!

If the choice were not sign Cunha because we are planing to bring in a transformational forward in the summer - it would make sense.

If we have no plans to bring in a Saka level forward in the summer, I’d be very happy to bring a quality forward like Cunha in this month to bolster the attack.

I do not believe we will sign Cunha.

It may or may be statistical noise but one of the intriguing things about Cunha’s statistical profile is that his finishing has been lights out for the last 18 months - 21 non-penalty goals on a npxg of 12.8 over the last two seasons in the PL.

I think there’s at least some reason to believe that he is a much better finisher than Havertz or Jesus and I see him mainly playing in those positions - the 9 or the second striker/midfielder role that Havertz plays.

I don’t really see him as a LW in our system, hanging out on the touchline.

I wonder what BigWeng thinks of Cunha now. If I recall correctly he was also impressed with him while following Guendouzi at Hertha.

We don’t need to worry about that guy and his awful talent ID

Serri, Locatelli, Guendouzi…

That guy who managed Leverkusen, Fonseca etc etc

He was as dumb as we’ve ever had and all of his information came from twitter.

no need to overpay for average-to-good players. We need folk who can improve our output, not just a body for the sake of it.
