Martin Zubimendi (36)

Big game for him next weekend. City away.

Very impressed with him today for the goals.

ahh yes, good catch!

berta is the man who signed rodri, so probably he want guimaraes or wharton (the athletic said we want wharton this summer but overpriced)

I absolutely love this guy! He is as every bit as good as I thought he would be. He completely controlled the midfield today and his two goals were excellent. It was a nice moment to be at the Emirates in my Zubimendi top to watch him score both those goals! Quality signing!

I reiterate that by Xmas, everyone is going to be talking about how good this guy is!

Was talking in our group about how crucial this guy is going to be for us

I liken him to Gilberto in how what he does is invisible. Fans of other teams will question what he actually does, but if youre watching him he does to many important things to keep us ticking over.

He’s a fucking legend. He did cause the free kick at Liverpool but probably gambled that they wouldn’t score from there.

I love the tidy tackles, he doesn’t foul in an obvious or dangerous way, just little niggly bites which means he should escape too many yellow cards. Clearly an intelligent man just from the way he reads the game. Compared to Rice, an absolute bargain.

Is it ridiculous to say that he reminds me of how Arteta played the role? Arteta was was way less mobile but comparable to how he could control the pace of the game.

I can see that. Plus Arteta did also have a hammer foot on him.

Couldn’t disagree more. Arteta was an awful player in that position he was an attacking midfielder who lost his legs and tried transition to a deeper role and was a big reason we got overran in midfield. Didn’t have the legs and just didn’t have the quality to dictate play from deep either.

Arteta was a bad CM/CDM at that time…

ok, he was “decent”, if not bad…

I agree with you to an extent. Arteta done a job for us in midfield, however arguably he could become one of the most important signings we have ever made. If Arteta doesn’t sign from Everton, he never comes here as Manager.

Castiel and I always disagreed with you on this.

2011-2013 he was very good in that role. Covered well for song.

13/14 yes he did begin to get a little leggy but I always thought he was tidy there

Arteta in that role was okay at best. Much like the rest of the team at the time.

You can look at those periods as being some of the worst in our history in terms of midfield control. We never came close to challenging top teams and Arteta was a big part of that.

He never belonged at a level higher than an Everton and we took him and played him out of what would traditionally be his best role anyway.

Arteta was bang average for us when he played imho. Zubimendi is way better than him.

Yeah, same. I think he did quite well up until 2014. Think beyond that his legs were completely gone. Tried to squeeze some more years out of him but it wasn’t gonna work at that level.

When Arteta & Ramsey played in midfield together, we were dominating the midfield and had great in game management often.
I disagree Arteta being average. He often topped the chart in terms of relevant statistics for the position alongwith Ramsey.

When those two were the main midfield players from 2011 to 2014 I never really got the sense that Arsenal were dominating in any part of the game. Those teams were just decent. Nothing more, nothing less.
