Martin Ødegaard (c) (8)

What @Flexo has illustrated above is exactly what pisses me off about Ode. He just doesn’t do what a play maker is expected to do. Even someone with half his ability would make those forward passes in those situations but he just recycles the ball. Very frustrating to watch, and even more frustrating for forward players.

There is an argument to be made that in the last couple of seasons, most of our attack has gone stale and therefore, there is certainly something from a style/tactic standpoint that Mikel is enforcing which has hampered our creativity, but those examples above are not it. That’s completely on Ode.

We’re overcomplicating things: Odegaard is a pussy. If he’s captain and embodies what the club stands for, we are in trouble. We are in big, big trouble.

I think that ankle injury a season or two back took a lot out of him, both physically and mentally. And then came the vegan phase :pires2:

Madrid WonderFLID not a wonder kid. We game him a home as an orphan, he settled in really well for 6 months. Passed a couple of GCSEs then went off the rails.

Fuck Him. We’re sponsored by Fly Emirates, get this twat a first class ticket out of here.

The only way he can redeem himself is with a matchwinning performance at the Etihad, but we all know that he is not capable.

Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?

You’re sounding a little unhinged there. Do you need to take a break to avoid losing it completely like I did after the League Cup Final debacle?

Genuinely think Odegaard is the embodiment of what is wrong with this club. It’s probably clear that I’m not a fan. One of the few players in our squad that I have zero faith in.

Really hope he goes in the summer. I’d genuinely rather have Nwaneri playing. Think he’s our least effective attacking midfielder.

Odegaard is going to get it worse from me than other players as he’s our captain. Still waiting for him to contribute to us winning something but it has not happened in three and a half seasons, more fool me for thinking it is possible at crunch time this season.

He can leave as well. Economy class.

Intentional typo? Great to have another soccer enthusiast on this forum.

Despite what any of us think, Arteta loves Odegaard. He remains club captain and I feel there is almost no chance of him being sold.

Im definitely in the camp of “he’s too good to fail” and do believe he will return to form. I hope it’s during the final stage of this season but a lot depends on his physical condition.

We need a player in midfield who can keep the ball when we go to the Etihad. We didn’t have enough possession players in the Carabao final, and City dominated us.

In the European games coming up, particularly if we get through and play Barca / PSG in the next rounds - without Odegaard we are going to get passed off the pitch.

Along with Saka, Odegaard needs to step up immediately. The time for trophies is right now and he has to see us over the line with big performances.

Odegaard being our captain ahead of Rice is understandable because Odegaard was made captain before Rice joined us.

But to see Saka being captain ahead of Rice has been painful.

To see us being captained by our of form players has been uninspiring.

Wild take.

Ozil’s best even at Arsenal is light years ahead of almost every CAM in history. Nevermind at Madrid.

Entitled to your opinion of course but as much as I rate the best level of Odegaard, only KDB and Cesc hit Ozil’s peak imo. Even then all 3 are different types of player.

You were far from alone brother.

He’s not even close to Nasri, Hleb and Rosicky in reality.

I am really shocked at how popular Ozil is. Genuinely shocked.

I guess it comes down to what sort of footballer you love. I really never got on with his body language and his languid gait. He was an incredibly skillful player but like so many skillful players he went missing in some games. He would be a passenger in today’s high press environment.

As I say, I’m genuinely shocked as I just can’t see why so many hold him in such high regard.

I wouldn’t put Ozil anywhere near Bergkamp, Vieira or Henry, not even close. His peak was impressive but elusive from what I saw.

Odegaard meanwhile, I like how he’s busy and is a good captain. His form hasn’t been good enough but he’s not had anywhere near a full season since 23/24. I think his opportunity to become a world class attacking midfielder has passed, but I hope I’m wrong, just for the sake of our hunt for trophies.

A magical technician. Was one of Real Madrids undroppables. Personally I think he is one of the most skillful attackers to have ever played the game in that winger-cum-wide-mid role. Could place a pass on a dime with either foot from any position. Outstanding dribbling, could easily beat his man most of the time.God level body feints.

One of the most underrated players of his generation. Quiet genius. Arsenal was levels below him as far as the forwards he had to play with after playing with Ronaldo,Higuain and Benzema. Towards the end there though, he couldn’t be arsed ….. and no you don’t want him run ragged pressing as a primary creator. I like how hard Ode presses but maybe that’s why his form has dropped so precipitously.

Ozil was probably the only genuine top class player Wenger bought after we moved to the Emirates so that’s probably why a lot of supporters rate him so highly.

I don’t see how you can say he’d be a passenger in the high pressing game. He played under Low who used the high press and Jose adopted the high press at various times over his stint at Real.

People can say what they want about his body language and all that but he was genuinely one of the most spectacular passers of the ball I have ever seen. And he was a silky dribbler too. He is genuinely one of the most gifted players I’ve ever seen in an Arsenal shirt.

You might be on to something there.

Recency bias perhaps. It probably didn’t help that I missed about 4 seasons (including Arsene’s last) when we were miserable to watch, I couldn’t get to the stadium and couldn’t justify paying for Sky just to watch all the top 4 sides thump us whenever we were on the TV.

My sample of matches could have been behind why I didn’t rate him. By the time I had Sky again (the first adidas season) I was underwhelmed with what I saw.
