Martin Ødegaard (c) (8)

If anyone on here ever feels bad about an old take, just remember that I once said I’d prefer to sign Gareth Barry over Xabi Alonso.

I would love to be able to see who the “Giroud is better than Higuain” people were. That one made me violently angry.

Thankfully I’ve never had moments like that, never. :trossard:

I remember wanting Mohamed Diame so badly and being enraged we didn’t sign him.

Those late Wenger years were terrible for the mind

The key midfielder is taking a significant step towards fitness, with the 25-year-old scheduled to return to training on the grass this week.

We don’t even really trust what Arteta said, and Dailymail???

You’d hope he’d have the sense to turn down a call up.

I was being sarcastic with my comment but I find it mental how club fans demand their players to miss out on playing for their national team because they want him to rest.

For me it’s less that I’d want him to rest and more that the national team doesn’t really have the same incentive to look after the player. The next major tournament isn’t until 2026 (if they even qualify) so if Odegaard gets hurt playing in November for Norway, their federation won’t really care because it doesn’t matter.

I know it means the clubs have to work with federations and national team coaches a little bit but after that chucklefuck Norway coach made jokes in his press conference about sending Odegaard back injured, I don’t trust him.

That’s fair and also a great insult

Some of us don’t care for international football and wish it would just go away and never come back

Someone needs to turn earth into a single nation planet so international football would just stop :joy:

One block club fixtures, one block international fixtures.

One day it’ll happen, please. This stop start stop start is shite.

I think it’s inevitable. The amount of money and eyeballs FIFA could get if they stacked qualifying over a few weeks during the summer has got to be insane. It also would have the benefit of replacing mid-season international breaks with either more fixtures and a mid-season winter break like most of Europe has or just off-weeks during the season.

I’ll accept one international break, perhaps midway through the season where the qualification is decided and then the actual tournaments in the summer.

You wouldn’t rather have players given three weeks off and then coming back fresh?

Or would you even entertain the Apertura/Clausura system Liga MX has? Could be fun.

Meh, international tournaments are infrequent. Every 4 years, plenty of time to fit qualifying in the summer.

Sounds awful anyway, if you think injuries right now is annoying, I can’t imagine losing players during the business end of the season is going to be anymore receptive.

Always said I don’t mind international games if it’s Euro/World Cup qualifiers. This Nations League nonsense can get in the bin no one asked for it
