yeah not his best game.
Surprised the criticism in here about him has been fairly tame(fair play to OA for not being reactionary).
He’s getting roasted elsewhere.
Havertz not starting the last two games meant someone else had to be scapegoated and of course that was Odegaard.
I also feel people are trying to pin down Norway’s lack of success on him rather than Erling and use his creativity numbers as a stick to beat him with.
He was very poor yesterday but so were many of our players. The last league game he was instrumental in us beating City and he ran the show against Bournemouth the previous game.
Shit happens.
Not just him, our players need to learn when to execute in a simple, direct way.
Øde was disgustingly bad yesterday. Teta hooking him of so early was a testiment to that.
I know it sound like a weird TY like excuse, but that pitch was not suited for Ødegaard yesterday.
When the pitch is that soaked and that slow the ATHLETE type players will have an advantage.
People will laugh at it but those conditions do not help the team that has the possession, plays a high line and tries to play with the ball on the ground.
Chelsea benefitted a lot from booting it long and hoping the ball bounces weird where their runners could take advantage of it, which they often did.
In comparison, Jorginho, Rice, Zinchenko and Odegaard kept fucking up the simplest of short passes due to it and we couldn’t really combine well when going forward.
See how that changed in the latter parts when the rain stopped and we started combining well again.
Arteta’s fault then?
Picking the wrong tactics?
I said before Havertz should have started both of the last two games. The ability to go long and start attacks using him has been a cheat code in both of his last two cameos. One would argue that playing against tired defenders played a part but Havertz has proven to be superb in the air regardless, even during a mixed stint at Chelsea, that’s been a quality of his that can’t be undermined.
On the rain thing, not much else Arteta could’ve done. He can’t control the weather and his subs proved to be impactful so there’s that.
We will see what Arteta line up when there is rain
Just reinforces my point that wet weather sport is absolute fucking garbage and ruins the spectacle. In the future all top level stadiums should have roofs.
Hang on, you DONT like sport played in the rain?
It’s awful. It’s an old-school rugby fan fetish to want the game to be played in pissing rain with 800 scrums but it’s absolutely dire to watch.
I dont mind a little rain but yesterday was just too much. It randomizes the game and make it less about talent and more about luck. I dont think i have ever watched a good game of football in pissing rain ever.
Also what is up with Stamford bridge and their shitty stadium? The pitch was flooded with water. Arent top level prem teams supposed to have technology to prevent the field to become a swimmingpool?
Love this guy.
Fucking terrible again today though.
Just going through a patch. Will get him firing soon enough.
19 passes tonight. Played like shit. Hopefully he picks it up soon. You’d hope a home game to Sheffield is just what the doctor ordered.
He was probably our worst player on the pitch, was actually glad when the boss hooked him.
I’m sure he’ll fight through the rough patch snd find form again soon though.
Not making excuses but I think he struggles when the weather gets really crap, especially heavy rain.
Remember how shit he was in that game at Brighton in his first full year with us that was played in a monsoon? He got benched for a little stretch afterward. These last two matches kind of remind me of that one.
Norway and Spain don’t have bad weather??
It seems like heavy rain makes his highly technical game hard. And he doesn’t know how to influence the match in other ways.
