Martin Ødegaard (c) (8)

How good would it be if that was our actual permanent badge and not the cartoon cannon they currently use

If they pointed it in the right direction, maybe.

Nervy start but he was an absolute warrior out there. Pressed like a psychopath. At certain points him and Jesus were essentially carrying any threat we had and just created shit out of nothing over and over again.

This is exactly the performance I wanted from him.

A bit shitty game but you always get unbelieveable workrate with him.

I don’t know where he brings all that energy from. There was one play where he pressed the ball all the way from right wing to left wing.

@SuperArsenal1886 u happy now?

Yups! He came out of his shell more in the 2nd half. Glad he stepped up.

contrasted with Eddie Nketiah’s light jog

these are the things that two three steps down the road lead to City not getting much done going forward by their standards. Fantastic effort by him again defensively.

My head was ready to pop.

There was one moment City players were just kicking the ball around around the middle of the park and Eddie was just jogging around and then incoming an Odegaard at top speed from deep chasing the City players back to their box.

My commentator even said “The pressing is good but you cant press alone” which was directed at Nketiah who kept watching the action, Jesus then joined Odegaard and we won the ball back which was a usual pattern from Odegaard and Jesus in the second half.

I think I am finally ready to watch that “Arsenal are best off the ball team” by Tifo. I couldn’t be arsed after we drew against Spurs where we conceded 2.

That used to drive me absolutely crazy in the final Wenger years.

We always had a couple of players pressing high with others staying deep and just watching them while these two (usually Giroud and Ramsey, or Welbz) were running like dogs after their whole back 4 and the keeper on a huge area, having no chance to get the ball, just wasting their energy.

He put in the gritty performance thats necessary to win some of these huge games rather than a spellbinding one that he’s normally capable of

Captain’s performance

Average offensively but huge on the work rate.
I see more of a captain today than all other games.

His pressing is absolutely insane.

My captain

He did not stop running and pressing all game. Ridiculous fitness levels. City locked out our midfield for large parts of the game but when he got on it he showed his class. And he’s a leader. He gets the crowd pumped and they respond. The synergy with the fans is undeniable.

Arteta’s most impressive individual project in terms of building this team.

yeah if anyone wonders why he hasn’t had his usual output in attack, partly his magic combos with Saka were not there, but mostly it’s the fact that he is being tasked with doing norse gods’ work defensively and he just does it so passionately and well. We will never know how many dangerous situations we never ended up in because of his (and others) off the ball work rate.

Legend in the making. Even though he’s Norwegian. Impressive.

He was absolutely poor yesterday. Odegaard has the tendency to overcomplicate very simple situations.

He’s only registered 2 assists in 30 games against the big 6. That’s 30 games across 4 years. For someone who is a key player and on a high salary, he really should be doing a lot better.

Haven’t found a creative player as good as Fabregas, or even near his level to be honest.

The pass to Saka who was making the underlapping run seemed so obvious. I don’t understand why Odegaard complicated the move.

He was also at fault for the Mudryk cross. Ben White played a simple pass to him which he somehow decided not to touch.
