Manchester United

Going to get in early on calling him a bald fraud here.

No basis for it.

Don’t care if it’s Erik Eleven Hag, United is a poisoned chalice. Managers with any sense would steer clear of them.

Woodward is gone. If there was a time for things to be changed for the better then it’s now. I’m certainly worried about them getting their act together.

It’s always going too be a job that a top manager will be attracted too.

I guess it makes getting Top 4 all the more important as it feels like United will eventually get something right.

One thing that will always rankle is never taking advantage of United after Fergie left.
City,Liverpool, Chelsea traditional rivals maxed out on this. We haven’t and at some stage they climb back into the mix.

At least we manage to beat them a couple of times, that never happened under the later Fergie years

I don’t think Ten Hag & Man Utd are a good match. Too many changes have to be made in order for him to do well. Gut feeling says it won’t work out.

“Dead” :joy:

Also spoke about suffering with depression

It’s hard to think of anyone on the roster other than Sancho who truly fits his style of football and is at the necessary level.

There won’t be a lot of patience at that club if he struggles in his first year either.

It’s amazing that Man U chose to ignore Conte, who has made a big difference at spurs, and go with Rangnick who isn’t really a manager.
But then show an interest in Ten Haag who, although is a great manager, will need more than a season to sort their mess out.

They might be one of the biggest clubs in Europe but if they have another season out of the CL it’s not going be as easy to attract the best managers and players so they need manager who can walk in and make an immediate impact and I’m not sure Ten Haag is that sort of manager.

Paul Pogba on his future: “We have to be honest, I am not satisfied over the last 5 years, but not at all. This year, it’s dead, we will win nothing again. Whether it is with Manchester or in another club, I want to win trophies

Easily one of the most overrated midfielders of this generation. Very misplaced sense of arrogance

‘It’s simple with France, I play and I play in my position – I know my role and I feel the confidence of the coach and the players,’ he continued.

‘It’s normal to feel a difference at Manchester United because it’s hard to be consistent when you often have a change to your position, or the team system, or your partners.’

He added: ‘I get along very well with [Deschamps], he gave me a role that I know, but at Manchester United do I really have a role? I ask the question but I don’t have an answer.’

No one forced him to move to a dysfunctional post SAF United side, I think by the team he signed they had already gone through Moyes and LVG, then hired Mou

It’s a shame he wasted good years at a shitty club.

I don’t think he should be blamed for United being so massively dysfunctional though. He’s signed at a time that he’s had to contend with his main midfield partners being Matic, McTominay and Fred for most of his time there.

Not disputing he has to take the blame for some of his lifeless performances but I honestly think he’s just desperate to leave at this stage and checked out a while ago.

OGS? Ragnick? Not a high quality manager in sight. Shitty midfield partners. Shitty defence. Must be a nightmare for any United player to be in such a toxic environment we’ve seen way too many good players flatter to deceive their in the post Fergie years.

Neither do I, although his signing is part of a galactico lite transfer strategy spearheaded by Woodward.

The fact he’s checked out is part of the Pogba problem, sure United may not win anything and the squad is shit but Top 4 is still there to play for. I don’t get publicly waving the white flag or signaling defeat.

He’s a proven leader for France but acts like this for United? That very suspect regardless

I think it’s the elite (and admittedly unprofessional) mentality of certain players. They don’t want to compete for “top 4”. That’s not a trophy anywhere in the world. It’s the same way Conte gets angry when people tell him about finishing top 4 for Spurs.

Players want to compete for the biggest trophies at the biggest stage not a qualification to a competition he used to actually get close to winning for his previous club.

He left Juventus to spearhead United’s resurgence and it’s failed.

I guess the counterpoint to Pogba saying he wants to win trophies rather than compete for top four is to point out that he is also underperforming. Yes, he’s had bad partners but signing a galactico like him was supposed to elevate the entire team. Obviously he’s just one person, but we’ve seen one player drag teams over the line. RvP moving to United is a good example, Aubameyang during Project Restart and the FA Cup run is another example.

So no, it’s not all his fault, but he’s also part of the teams that have underperformed.

Pogba is a hard player to build around but United never really tried.

He had an incredible year in 18-19 largely playing in a midfield three as the most attacking player. Then he got hurt in 19-20 and United responded by bringing in a player in Bruno that he was never going to coexist with.

On the one hand, its hard to argue with what Bruno delivered for them. On the other, it was still indicative of a poor team building strategy. Rather than putting better players around their best player (Pogba) at the time, they pushed him out of his natural role for somebody else.

They’ve done this repeatedly, its a bizarre thing.

Martial looked like a breakout star at CF. They immediately buy Zlatan, who of course is going to play every match.

Rashford has been their second best player for several years while occupying the LW position. They buy Sancho, who is also best as a LW.

Man that is a really good point.

I do wonder if they thought Pogba was leaving summer 2020 and then the bottom kind of fell out of the market.
