They could easily argue that the true effect wasn’t felt untill certain deals came up for negotiation etc. in much the same way a citizen might not challenge a law until it actually materially affects them
Its not like I think there is an ounce of good faith or honesty in what they are doing here but you’re saying you can’t understand how they could even raise the objection years later and it seems perfectly obvious to me.
See for example the deeply cynical Trumpian framing, the idea that this is a battle being fought against “the elites”. Here we have a richer-than-god inherited monarchy, owners of the most powerful football club in the world, somehow presenting themselves as outsiders. When will the boundlessly rich kings and princes of the overclass finally be allowed to take a seat at the top table? Other than now, and for ever, in every single sphere of life?
Then there’s the dreadfully tin-eared phrase “tyranny of the majority”, used here to describe that most tyrannical of things, democracy. In its proper context John Stuart Mill’s quote is supposed to describe a state of mob rule, where no institution regulates the urges of the herd. Not so much the richest guy at the table failing to get his way in a boardroom vote.
The direct analogy would be the British government buying, say Royal Antwerp, splurging billions of pounds of its GDP on winning the Belgian league while Antwerp’s fans say this is all great, and Antwerp thanks you Grant Shapps, before eventually suing the Belgian league into oblivion for refusing to allow us, the UK government, to rewrite its rules.
maybe they view it that they have their own issues and have to stick to the rules and mancity are making it even harder to sort things out for themselves.
You should be the least surprised actually. Financially they’re one of the best run clubs in the league. Levy was a big advocate of FFP from the very start.
Correct, but with a brand new stadium, big net transfer spend in 23/24, and no CL football it doesn’t really matter how financially well a club is run, it’s going to be impacting things
If they had a loaded owner(Qataris was interested in them at some point) that wanted to invest heavily in them it would make sense to side with City.
They don’t. They’re known to be pennypinchers so it’s in their best interests if they want to remain competitive that rules are in place so that they don’t allow clubs like City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Villa to spend like crazy.
The one I’m surprised to not see there(doesn’t mean they’re sliding with City) is Liverpool.
It’ll be interesting to know exactly what evidence is being submitted. As @GC-Maniac mentioned, I’m surprised Liverpool aren’t mentioned amongst that group of clubs, but I suppose it comes down to actually having the evidence.
Interesting that some of those clubs listed, have had staff move to and from c💩ty - particularly Utd, and Brighton.
For some it is easier to double down and triple down on crap than to admit something they dont want to. I am sure they see what everyone else is seeing but are playing dumb.
