We are shit at selling but I suspect Torreira just has no meaningful market. Its not like we would be actively turning down offers from clubs valuing him at 15m. Sampdoria is the last link and they just wanted a loan.

His cousin must live in Turkey? Maybe him his missus want to take a drive to Antalya to sample the cuisine?
This guy is a fucking knob. I got him wanting to join a Spanish or Italian team.
well, 7m euros is better than a can of kidney beans. Get him out asap. Cant stand having this cunt in the team.
€7m May as well have kept him. Hopefully this means that midfielder that we needed to sell before we bought in can actually be bought in now
This seems to be money oriented. Muslera is a Uruguay legend btw so I’m sure he must’ve reached out to see how Turkey is.
Despite the conflicts with them my understanding is that life in Turkey is pretty sweet. He’ll probably enjoy it there moreso than England.
I’ve called him plenty of things recently but the guy has serious talent. It’s a shame his career is turning out to be considering his potential. Oh well…
by the end of the season he will be telling his new club that he feels not quite right and for his convenience he needs to find somewhere new especially after family has said so.
So that’s around £15m raised from selling Leno and Torreira who collectively cost us £45m and who’s value should almost certainly not have plummeted how it has.
I’d say this is a combination of the clubs desire to just get players off the books and European clubs being reluctant to spend properly
Is it reluctance or most non-PL being somewhat broke?
The whole food chain is totally unbalanced at the moment. PL is becoming a pseudo Super League.
Lol 7m for Torreira is a joke. He’s worth at least double that.
However, at this stage we just have to accept what we’re given if he’s not at all in the plans of the manager. Otherwise he sits in the reserves for a year and goes for zilch, at least we get something for him.
Nothing player with a nothing attitude.
Had you told me 3 years ago that we would 15 m for Torreira and Bernd Leno combined I would have called you imbecile. Horrific sales.
Its kind of our thing unfortunately… the combo of buying middling tier at best (and GK rarely go for that much tbf) and then paying them AFC wages, which most clubs don’t want to take on… so the team has to be in a financial tier where they typically are going to be looking for better players to begin with…
It is one of the things we seem to be poor at, honestly since that last few years of Arsene…
Just get his salary off the books
I get that it’s annoying to see players leaving for low sums but just think about the difference between our “successful” sales and the unsuccessful ones:
Successful
Willock
Emi Martinez
Iwobi
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Unsuccessful
Leno
Torreira
Lacazette
Aubameyang
Welbeck
Jack
Ozil
Mustafi
Kola
Sokratis
Luiz
Willian
Walcott
Ramsey
Alexis
The big difference is that the guys who are “good” sales were players that teams actually wanted because of their potential. It’s hard to sell guys who are – for whatever reason – not performing and not likely to improve over the length of a contract.
I’m glad we didn’t let Fiorentina get him for that money though and accepting it from someone else is a nice “fuck you” at least.
Yeah i totally get it and that is a good list to evaluate - i think the combo of a top team’s wages plus mediocre (without upside) really hurts you… tbf this isn’t super atypical for tier 1 or 2 teams… we certainly look relatively poor at it though and for a team like us who don’t have unlimited funds (the Manc clubs), we do need to improve here.
I’m choosing to look at the total amount of money we get in rather than individual fees, given that we are largely selling players that everyone is well aware we don’t want. Whatever we recoup is something.

So much hate for this guy. It’s just strange.
