Do you think they’ll challenge again though?
Not yet.
If this guy is good they could build and do it I guess
Edwards is back which is a big help
Expect names like Arne Slut to be seen quite a few times in the future, either by opponents supporters or from the scousers depending how his tenure goes.
I still think if you look at their squad you see a lot of good to very good players but a real dearth of top class ones.
Their best players are still Alisson, Trent, VVD, and Salah and I think at least three of them if not all four will be gone within the next year or two.
Other than MacAlister, its odd how nobody else in the squad really managed to establish himself as a rock for Klopp in this past season. Players like Konate, Szoboslai, and Nunez that were once seen as the core of Liverpool 2.0 were rotational guys during the last few months. Diaz was an automatic selection but also showed once again that he doesn’t have the end product to be a truly top player and at 27 he’s unlikely to develop it. Then you have a bunch of good players with limited ceilings like Elliott, Jones, Gomez, Gakpo, Tsimikas, etc.
Ideally for us they keep their old core. That’s how problems arise because that’s when players start comparing the new guy to the old guy that brought them all the success.
Because then you’re essentially set up to fail.
I do fear they’re gonna be proactive enough by cleaning house.
Yeah, I think Edwards is too smart not to sell Salah for a big fee this summer to Saudi Arabia and that its mainly public posturing right now. Salah has also looked pretty washed since Afcon. That wouldn’t be the first time he went through a stretch like that in the second half of a season but this time I think it might be a permanent change.
VVD I could see staying and then going on a free somewhere.
No idea about Trent or Alisson. I think Trent is a very unusual player and a lot depends on whether Slot wants to build a team partly around him or not.
I think that’s a big part why Trent is not in any rush to sign a new deal(along with the Madrid interest).
He’s played for two managers.
Klopp who got him and subsequently made him a centerpiece of the team, Southgate who struggled to fit him into the team and even outright omitted them from squads before.
Can’t really commit then the new guy comes in and has a tough time fitting you into his tactics or outright doesn’t like you.

Salah when Arne tells him that he needs to start tracking back again under him:

Enjoyed having Klopp in PL. The league has lost a great personality and one who can win things without corruption.
i don’t even think he will be there next season so he can flap his gums as much as he wants knowing it wont have anything to do with him.
I think they’ll struggle without Klopp because he’s going to be a hard act to follow, especially at a club like Liverpool where supporters could turn against the new manager if things don’t get off to a good start.
There’s no real world class players there which makes it difficult for the new manager who’s going to be compared to Klopp after every game.
So with Chelsea starting to get themselves together, it might be them who will overtake Liverpool.
Could he become a benchwarmer next season?
Major mediocrity incoming next season on merseyside. Nice.
Well,nl I hope he stays.
That’s time bomb ready to explode. Ronaldo style exit in January.
“This bald man came and he told I need to work more, who the fuck is this guy?”
Clearly declining but continues to be productive
May have to make adjustments to his game and dribble less and play closer to goal in the way Ronaldo had to
Crying about Klopp is gonna ramp up more if Slot has a poor start to his Liverpool career.
