It really does feel like Edu is trying to get deals done fast which I appreciate. One of the worst things about Arsenal over the last 5-10 years is the glacial pace of transfers. I’d like to think this is the last window where we have issues on that front.

Remember when we didn’t sell Gibbs to WBA or something like that only to turn around and sell him for like half the mooted fee?
Now obviously we’re all assuming the better bid would come from United. Just because Ajax would be more inclined to accept a 45m bid from United over a 35m bid from Arsenal doesn’t mean Martinez is getting 10m in wages per year. He may have been able to agree more favorable terms with Arsenal even if it’s generally understood that United have more money than Arsenal to spend.

Huge advantage in having Ten Hag in the first place. Obviously they still have a much bigger budget too.
If we’re competing with them I doubt we would have much chance unless Martinez really wants to to move here for some special reasons/preferences.

If the rumors are true he’s got bonus money at stake here. If I’m his agent there’s no way I’d let Barca skate on that. They really want him gone that badly, they can pay out some of that loyalty bonus to him direct.

Arsenal have a more advanced interest in Lisandro Martinez than Man Utd
We should hear about the Jesus to Arsenal deal soon, and there’s also interesting news emerging on the future of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. The impressive Argentine has been linked by various sources with both Arsenal and Manchester United, with slightly differing takes on what’s going on with the player.
My understanding is that these are two negotiations at different stages: Arsenal have already submitted official offers up to €40m plus add-ons for Martinez, while Manchester United are currently busy with Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong, but have had contact with Lisandro’s agents.
The player is so far open to negotiate with both clubs. Arsenal are insisting a lot this week because Arteta is understood to be a big fan of Lisandro, considered a versatile player with top team skills. For now, the Gunners’ interest is more advanced, but this still looks like it could be an open race.
All this talk of being “advanced” “leading the race” “ahead of” is such a load of nonsense from the media to drump up stories. There is no being ahead, we’ve agreed fuck all with ajax so it dosnt matter if we bid 1,2 or 10 times if they were all rejected.

Yeah it’s all horseshit. We could be further down the line with negotiations, but if we have a bid accepted and United actually want him at that price then they’re matching it within hours. They just wasted less of their time to get to the same point.

yea unless the player is being a dick with preferences I presume all of these transfers are auctions, every club which made a peep at some point will certainly very much be given the opportunity to offer equal or more money before they close up shop, especially when we’re not even half way through the window
