Lionel Messi 🐐

I remember at a very early stage… Before 2010 or so…While people were still raving about Ronaldo’s free kicks… I was saying Messi was a better free kick taker even though wasn’t scoring much.

He had the right technique. It wasn’t going in often, and he wasn’t taking them too often, but he knew how to curl it and kinda had more control in those shots and was always close to scoring.

Ronaldo, even in his best free kick years, one day he’d score an impossible screamer, and then later he flies a few into the crowd/outside of the stadium. Never had true consistency and full control. Drogba, for example, who had similar technique, was better and more consistent, but it’s a crime Lampard was the no 1 FK taker at Chelsea (ffs) and prevented Drogba from scoring more.

I actually expected Messi to start scoring from the FKs regurarly much earlier, but he only truly decided to focus on them and master them at the later stage of his career when he was staring to lose the pace.

He is truly underrated in this department

Messi most clinical, Juninho most impressive.

Best freekick taker I’ve ever seen. More impressive than Juninho in my opinion.

Has it been announced what he’s doing yet ? After 17 seasons and at 34 years of age I really wish he’d try something different.

Nothing official but the latest on him is that he’s staying at Barca. Likely to be sorted after the Copa America final.

I’m actually very suspect of this situation. The guy is genuinely free to do what he wants. Barca playing with fire. Someone like PSG can swoop in and steal him like at the last second like Wijnaldum.

Dont know how Barcelona can’t sign or register anyone at the minute till they reduce their wage bill and that’s something thats not getting fixed quickly.

Yep, he had a stinker, and he still won the trophy. Imagine discrediting his achievement when he carried Argentina to the final.
I’ve seen some of the worst football in my life in this tourney, most of those guys were thinking of Mykonos and Ibiza.
Messi was one of the very few that actually gave a shit and produced some good football.

Was an awful tournament and hopefully the last time we see one with empty stadiums.

What bugs me about how people treat Messi on the international stage is that he’s played in 5 finals now.

4 Copa America and 1 World Cup final. He’s won the best player at this C/A and the best player at the World Cup in 2014. He’s got a goals per game ratio similar to CR7.

I feel like people just wanted to search for reason to downplay his greatness and this was it. And now he’s won the Copa America they’ll say it was a shit low quality tournament. They’ll shift the goalposts
