Leandro Trossard (19)

I like the idea of getting a more experienced head in the side. One of the big problems with Wenger’s young side that had the potential to go places is it had none at all and we don’t want to let it go that way.

Crazy to think Xhaka was in that situation like year and a half ago

No idea how this move might pan out (or if Chelsea gazump us again), but the stats show he is more than capable.

Also - he has pretty much 1 goal in 2 this season. Assuming Brighton’s asking price is indeed £30m, even if we paid all of that for a player that starts in the PL and scores on that kind of pace, it’s a good deal.

It kind of makes me think of when Liverpool signed Jota.

20m + 5m in bonuses?
Sounds about right.

Or a goal a game if you’re Eni Aluko

But your logic doesn’t make sense because signing anyone in January will then impact our budget in the summer.

£30m now on Trossard is certainly gonna impact us less in the summer than £100m on some winger we have no idea how will settle in.

There’s a lot of He-Isn’t-Mudryk-Itis

In my post I said about being the right player.
For example, if this is a panic buy, and just getting someone in because hes available and we need someone then I would rather us not do it as it impacts our transfer plans in the summer.
However, if we have had our eye on him for a while, and he was on our list and in our plans then yes, its a good purchase and wont affect our summer plans as we already would have planned for him to come in.

I think Trossard is a pragmatic plan B to not signing Mudryk, I don’t think there was ever any intention of signing Trossard next summer or anything like that.

But signing Trossard with his experience and ability certainly beats not signing anyone given our current position in the league.

Very interested in what the fee will be.

Presumably Brighton will be negotiating on the basis he actually has 18 months left of his contract because of the 1 year option they have. He’s not really a free agent in the summer.

On that basis, anything below £30m is pretty reasonable given it’s January and given our desperation.

Eh, he’s a live body. Not really blown away by him signing but we need to do something.

Fucking Andrew Tate out here. Give it a rest misogynist!

Imo, the contract is more important than the fee.
Need to leverage our position as league leaders and get him on a reasonable wages. That should allow us to move him on later on without much hassle.

He’s 28, this is his best chance of winning some silverware at the top level. Should hopefully count for something.

If we get this done, it’s a pretty smart move ny the club. Should come relatively cheap by today’s standards, already plays in the PL, has played in heavy possession systems and in a good position to contribute right now.

Be good if we can do this and perhaps one more depth signing or a loan.

Didn’t realise how good a dribbler he is! His touch is great.

Actually quite excited for this transfer now.
