This is the sort of signing that is a lot easier to make when we’re top of the league and although he might not be elite, Trossard is certainly a more than useful player.
We’re in a great position to attract top players and either in this window, or at the end of the season, should take full advantage of it.
I’ve seen him play, but there’s no “wow factor” about him imho. Could be a smart move, if the price is 20-25 m as I predicted earlier. Hopefully he will be inspired by the move and raise his game.
This doesn’t strike me as a panic buy. This strikes me as the guy who was next on the list. Went for Mudryk, didn’t get him. Possibly enquired about Diaby, got no serious response, next stop on the list was Trossard.
Seems like decent planning for the window to be honest.
Overall an astute signing, has the experience, played in various systems and quite a bit versatile too.
Fee should be reasonable so much more pros than cons and also frees us up to monitor the market in the next few years for an upgrade.
Biggest benefit is he won’t need to adapt that much at all, he’s ready to go plus it’s someone who will likely have the trust of the coaching staff from the off.
Brighton handling this better than we did with Guendouzi though. They’ll never repair that relationship but keeping the fee up by pretending it’s possible.
