Trick question. What back line did Wenger use in that painful 8-2 thrashing by United?
Jenkinson - Djourou - Koscienly - Traore.
And some people claim our defense right now is the worst ever (before this transfer window).
Truth be told, that game was a freak accident. It came out way worse than it really was, as RvP actually missed a penalty, and 3-4 of those United goals were just extremely unlikely screamers, an unstoppable belter by Young, two very improbable free kick goals by Rooney, and only Koscielny was a regular, the other defenders were basically reserves. And yet that game is remembered by most people as a significant event showing the gap between the sides at that time. It really wasnât, it was a freak accident.
True. They finished 2nd and we finished 3rd. I think it was a typical game-raising team talk by Whiskey Breath (âoch, aye, itâs Wenger, letâs embarrass himâ) even though the sonovabitch suggested he didnât want to embarrass us in the post match interview.
We werenât that bad back then. We even beat the eventual champions with an Arteta goal towards the end of the season. It was particularly pleasing to see Manchester United lose out that season (but even more infuriating to see us sell our best player to them that summer!)
Did he though? We had an option to extend the deal by a year because Wenger/Gazidis put it in because they wanted to extend in the event he was still useful. This was only signed 18 months before Wenger left so the idea that Wenger told him he wouldnât have to renew within that period seems unlikely but possible I suppose.
Wenger represented the club. Even Wenger left, and I truly believe that the club has to honor the deal/agreement.
If that is what you guys said, something promised (by Wenger) and the club did something otherâŚ
The club carriers the same amount of fault as Kos did.
I was going off transfermarkt, which IIRC claimed it was expiring but there was an option to extend, but it does appear most sources claim the contract would run from 2017-2020
I did find an article from this year hinting stating âArsenal are holding off giving Kosceilny a contract extensionâ, which makes you wonder if that triggered it.
And depending on how long we were in for Luiz (initial interest in January) we might have been quite happy flogging Kosceilny to get Luiz.
I am surprised by your stance on this one, considering how vehemently you defended Persie when you were a guy.
All of us have looked a massive hypocrits in all of this. We have been okay with Ozil being dropped for lesser options to make sure we force a transfer out of him; yet we have demonized Koscielny for doing the same.
Mind it wasnât him who made this public.
Contractually speaking he refused to abide to it and contractually he was fined for it.
Considering my stance on Persie I come across as a hypocrite as well but unlike Persie, Koscielny actually gave us 7-8 years of service
