Laurent Koscielny

Never liked this cunt.

I can’t agree with this- but he is a cunt now, yes

Yeah, on reflection he was shit and only looked good because he was playing with even worse players.

He only looked good because Per marshalled him and made up for his absolute horrendous reading of the game. People used to act like it was Koz keeping Per right but I saw it the other way around.

Anyway Per went out like a boss and Koz went out like a bitch so it doesn’t bother me.

Per still criminally underrated.

Pers last game: we played Chelsea

Koss last game: we played Chelsea.

The difference between them in a lot of qualites showed in the results of those 2 games.

Preach bro.

I’d say overall they were on a similar level, and deserve almost the same credit… but the one who was somewhat of a leader and who was organizing the defence, and had more impact on other players around himslelf (both with his personality and tactical quality) was undoubtedly per.

This guy was Wenger through and through. Glad we got rid of the plastic Achilles merchant

It doesn’t have to be either or really, I think most people recognised that they complemented each other quite nicely. Both of their games were very different to each other and they did well to mask each others shortcomings. Both had their respective qualities.

Which is pretty much my idea of what a centre back partnership should be.

The last thing I say about him, he burned his bridge with Arsenal. He shouldn’t be given any kind of job or welcomed back fondly once he retires. He has his fan’s in the fanbase, I never rated him as strongly as others. He’s no Tony Adams or Sol Campbell. He has acted unprofessional and has left a bitter taste. But we move on and we got him off the books.

I’ve talked with you and Darkseid about this before so I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole again but I just gotta say that there was always an underlining belief that Per was the weaker link in the partnership. I never saw it that way, I really think Koz was lucky to playfor Arsenal. And much like Giroud I feel he got way more out of his time here than the club got from him.

Like you saw they both had their flaws and weakness’ but for the most part they were great together, of course Per was great with almost anyone beside him and Koz was a little crybaby bitch when big Papa Per wasn’t there to babysit, but that’s a story for another day.

I’d agree he was underrated… he wasn’t my cup of tea in the sense that it scares the f*ck out of me to have someone so slow back there, but he was intelligent and used the gifts he had to the max.

This feels like major revisionism haha. Per was shit on plenty of occasions, with plenty of different players, let’s not totally rewrite history and act like he was consistently a beast. Cos he really wasn’t.

Anyway, like you said, perhaps not best to go down this particular rabbit hole. Because I actually love Per so I don’t want to end up in some adversarial conversation where I find myself digging him out, cos I had a higher opinion of him than many did.

Last thing on your point above… Per was an organiser, Wenger seemed to mostly prefer signing the Koscielny type of centre back, so for that reason there is something in what you say about Per meshing well with our other defenders in a way Koscielny didn’t so often. But to me that says nothing about how good they are, that’s just a question of compatibility and Wenger’s squad building/planning. If our squad was overloaded with slow as fuck, organising types like Per and only one Koscielny this would be the other way round. Put Per with another slow defender in his mould and they’d both have got done on the regular. Just like Kos was when playing with an unsuitable partner.

Look at Laurent Koscielny. The way he left Arsenal for Bordeaux was a disgrace. This is someone who had been at the Emirates Stadium for nine years, captained the club and had unrelenting support during difficult times with serious injuries.

If you captain a club of Arsenal’s stature, you have a duty to act responsibly. He should have been on the plane for their pre-season tour to the United States — not turning up is the worst thing a professional footballer can do to his team-mates, the fans and the staff.

To make matters worse, the way they revealed his transfer with a video of him peeling off an Arsenal shirt to show a Bordeaux kit was dreadful. He burnt his bridges so badly he will never be able to show his face at the Emirates again.

I played for a number of clubs in my career but I’d like to think I left everywhere on good terms. I’ve always received great ovations when I’ve been back to old stadiums with opposing teams and I can’t understand why you would actively antagonise those who care about you.

Top man Crouchy.

Nonsense tbh

A money spinning preseason tour and a low budget shirt reveal, who cares? It’s all trivial BS which doesn’t invalidate 9 years for committed service for this club.

Just not bothered about the way he left considering he should have been phased out 2 seasons ago

@sevchenko is typing, wonder how he’s going to be contrarian and shit on Peter Crouch for a reasonable opinion

Edit: beat me to it, but glad not to be disappointed :joy:

Agreed, Per was especially pretty poor after the world cup and he was obviously apart of those thrashing in 13/14 when otherwise Ko/Per was a great partnership

Kosceilny came in and gave good performances even last season. So while they had dithering final game performances both were great servants.

In the end we paid Ā£3.5m to upgrade from a crocked Kos to Luiz so it worked out okay. I reckon Abrahmovic did Luiz a favour, like when he let Cech move against Mourinho’s wishes

Crouchy on point
