Makes me think he probably had some thing when he signed his last contract with Wenger, that he could leave in the final year if he wanted to and Wenger would’ve probably let him since they worked close together for 7-8 years, then the new guys came in and were not sentimental at all about anything and he felt hard done by and said it would’ve never happened with W or w/e. but yeah, would be nice to hear the full story in a few years when it has all cooled off a bit.
Sounds like the Evra-Woodward deal. Club or the player had the option to renew, Lolo told them he would like to leave and they probably said OK but then renewed his contract anyway.
Except it doesn’t sound anything like that because that’s not the type of contract he had.
Yep, Bordeaux is a nice city too, would rather live there than London. Too many British in London.
It was not smart to rely on Koscielny anymore anyway. He couldn’t stay on the pitch for a longer stretch of time.
Don’t know what his actual contract looks like. Maybe there was something agreed(handshake agreement) when he signed his deal. A bit like what Zaha did with Palace. Tbf we don’t know the situation with Monreal who was supposed to leave as well but ‘allegedly’ got his deal renewed silently.
Anyhow, lesson to be learned. Handshake agreements ans promises mean shit. Get them agreements on signed papers.
I still remember his first game, it was v Milan at Emirates cup. His positioning was so good and he read the game with ease defensively.
Even remember few posts from OA’ers back then. Whole 9 years have flown, damn.
A fine signing - great investment as he gave us 9 years - a fighter. Best luck to him.
Hope they get relegated. He’s acted like a total jerk.
Enjoy your shitty Puma gear Kos!
He’s been shit now anyways for a while. After his injury we all wondered how he’d be and he was pretty mediocre. Dood actually probably did us a favor because now we might actually bring in a quality CB.
€5m is very good for a player who has at most one year in him and I doubt he even has that as a starter with his fitness problems. I thought we’d get no more than €2m.
He’s nearly 34, how many 34 year olds have been starters for Arsenal in the last decade? I think we were headed for disaster with him as an important part of our squad.
And people want to talk about how he was loyal for nine years… Watch this video and tell me he wouldn’t have fucked off to a bigger team if they came in for him.
Popped to wikipedia to take another look at his career, and aside from nine years at Arsenal, it’s all shit. Yet he wants to act this way. I hope they get to a final or two just so he can cost them it. Wanker.
That’s exactly what I said. He was loyal because there wasn’t a concerted effort made by a bigger team to sign him. Koscielny would have upped and left years ago had an opportunity presented itself.
He was far more fortunate to play for Arsenal for 9 years than we are to have had him for 9 years.
There’s no evidence to suggest that he didn’t have the opportunity to move away. From 2012-16, he was one of the better CBs in the league and could have easily jumped ship.
But this goes for every player in football. Just look at the players who left Arsenal the last 10 years or so. It has been less the case the last 2 to 5 years, but that is because the players we had were just absolute shit and couldn’t do better.
But there’s no evidence that a club ever made a real strong effort to sign him therefore I’ll have to stand by my belief that he hasn’t been loyal because he hasn’t actually had his loyalty tested.
You could argue this was the first season we really required Kos to be the captain and stick by the club during the new regimes transitional year and he upped and left for his own self interest.
There’s nothing wrong with that. I’d do the same thing. But I can’t then accept he’s been loyal when this was the first real time his loyalty was tested and he sulked until he got his move.
I’ve seen people praising his loyalty, hence my post.
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said, I’m not saying he’s somehow different to most footballers. If anything, my point is the exact opposite of that.
He looks totally stupid at his age trying to play the prima Donna in that video.
Played some good games for us over the years but got bullied to fuck and caved in many times.
Love Wrighty’s pop at Koscielny
Got a link for us please big man?
