He already was in 2009. But fuck him and the rest of them. selling off Britain’s gold what aturnip
@Leper won’t have to change the thread title.
Your Party has officially been named…Your Party. Fucking hell
Good luck to anyone supporting this operation.
They’ve also voted for a collective leadership model, rejecting single leadership in a narrow vote.
Why are left wing people such twerps.
I don’t know if you can even blame mi5 for this
Of the many things that might do for Labour at the next election, this clown show isn’t going to be among them
Jury trials are a fundamental part of our democratic settlement. Criminal trials without juries are a bad idea.
The Government need to pull their finger out and acquire empty public buildings across the country to make sure these can happen in a way that is safe
Guess who said that back in 2020 ![]()
I can’t quite believe how fast and with how little protest this is going through. This is such a fundamental civil right that’s being curtailed and if I were from any marginal group especially I’d be very worried about my right to a fair trial, but it should worry everyone.
Yet again more proof that every single one of these cunts is a hypocrite and they are simply playing a game for power.
Tories suggest it - nah it’s wank idea you stupid clowns!
Fast forward 5 years: labour suggest the exact same thing and paint it as a brilliant idea.
No country should accept being bound to two main parties anymore, we see how it works every single time. The whole notion of having a government in the UK is becoming pointless, because they aren’t serving the purpose or meeting any single expectation of such a position of power making decisions for nigh on 70m people.
Give me all my taxes back and I’ll sort my own healthcare and private security out thanks.
That just ends up the same way
The death of the two party system has been edging closer from the moment Scotland and Wales’ national parties became more relevant.
I agree with the comment from @Starboy about having a greater choice. I’d explain more but I’ve got Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s sublime “Two Tribes” in my head. He had that shit sussed-out 40 years ago.
Anyway, want to save the planet at a cost? Vote green. Don’t care about poor people? Vote Tory. Want a new leisure centre? Vote for the independent local issues guy or girl. Get frightened by darker skin colours than your own? Vote Reform.
Then parliamentarians will have to learn to negotiate and work together with other parties and between them work out how to solve the real issues people have, not the ones the papers told them to fear.
Wish Scotland was doing this aswell. Forcing members of the public to do this is prehistoric
Meanwhile I’m sat here patiently waiting to get selected for jury service.
I am concerned about this too. However, let’s be real, the current system is in crisis and has a huge backlog of cases. The current delays, impacts on victims of serious crime who have to wait years for their case to come before Court. This is just one of many broken systems we have in this country. You either throw huge amounts of funding at the system to properly resource it, or you need to reform it.
Do the Government have the money to invest in the justice system to make it work? No. Are the public willing to pay more tax to fund the system? No. So reform is the answer and from what I’ve read, the reforms are based on a report by Sir Brian Leveson, a retired Court of Appeal Judge who was asked how to reduce the backlog of cases.
Trial by jury would be retained for offences with sentences over 3 years, such as not voting in a General Election, so it means more petty crimes can be dealt with by an experienced judge. On balance, I’m ok with this, IF it fixes the system, and it means victims have to wait less time to have their cases heard.
Having been called up to do jury service before, I can say that the system does work. It isn’t perfect, but what is?
You’re likely on all other types of lists, so you may be waiting for a while ![]()
Yea, it won’t.
How do you know that? What do you have in Ireland?
I hate this budget. And I hate this bowl cunt. Get your grubby mitts off working peoples’ money
Because the people leading it are morons and inept.
Zero chance that’s your take if Nigel Farage proposed the same reform.
It isn’t Reform proposing this though is it. Plus, I’m not even sure what Reform’s policy is so couldn’t comment. I am only commenting on the policy as proposed by the Government. As usual, you don’t like the policy and offer no alternative to resolve the issue, unless of course you think the current justice system is fine and dandy?
I listened to PMQs today. Starner says this move will only affect 3% of all trials. It basically won’t help at all in other words. (My estimation, not his)
That prick Wes’s career going up in smoke.
He obviously doesn’t have the temperament to be anywhere near leadership of anything.
What a pathetic individual
