Kieran Tierney (3)

Definitely does not meet the technical threshold for this side. Bland going forward with a suspect defensive skillset, bin

Anything above £30m would be excellent

They’ve got Moreno and Digne though.
Newcastle is too good a fit in my eyes. His main competition will be Burn, and I think he is better than them.
While Villa have a nice project and I see them growing, Newcastle is already in the CL and with the backing they have, they could very well end up challenging for major trophies soon.

No doubt. I just feel he’s just short in real performance level for a team of that ambition. Emery is more structured and feel he would fit better in that system and level of expectation. I think he’s more of an Emery defender than Digne.

I can see KFT going to Newcastle, but I do wonder how he’d get on with MBS, when the owner inevitably wants to meet the team.

Get tae fuck. He can smash it for Scotland if he wants.

This is inaccurate for me.

Agreed, if he’s smashing it then that likely means Newcastle doing very well. So yeah, good luck to him, but let’s hope not.

I think he did well when he was asked to play that role

Sure he did it at West Ham, he had a good game

Tierney was probably Emery’s best signing and is why he wants him at Aston Villa.
As cover for LB there aren’t many better in the PL but he’ll get regular first team games if he goes there or Newcastle, so as long as we get more than 40m for him, it’ll be ok if he leaves.

Was one of the most awkward fits I’ve seen in ages seeing him try playing the inverted role. Was pissed at Arteta for asking him to do that instead of just overlapping like he usually does where he still offers a different kind of threat.

If the manager wasn’t so set on inverted fullbacks in every game I’d of liked to keep Tierney but he simply has no role left for him under this manager. I think Arteta has been weeding out all pre-arrival buys year on year like they were a huge mistake lol.

can we squeeze out 40m for him?

No we can’t. Newcastle won’t spend money like that on a full back.
Not a game changing signing. 30 tops and you have done well.

In this market I believe it’s possible to land 35m+

We need good money for a replacement seeing as we already have a huge spend to carry out to strengthen.

More and more this summer is looking like we’ll be short on numbers again and we’re just replacing instead of adding.

And biding wat between Villa and Ncastle does make my juices flowing tho. 40m would add nicely to our summer WARCHEST.

Oh we definitely do and I share the fear on numbers.
Everyone will be adding and some serious money will have too be spent.
I do worry we will be carrying Nelson etc just to flush the squad out but they are not the standard.

As soon as he arrived it was obvious Arteta didn’t like many of the players that previous managers had bought and it was almost like they weren’t good enough for him.
But it became a problem when there was friction between him and several of the high profile players which was probably why we had a couple of dodgy seasons and an eight place.

Newcastle seem quite interested in him, so with Aston Villa as well, it could push the price up.

Basically my feelings.

For us he is a back up LB with injury issues. Even if he manages to shake them off, he isn’t transformative. I don’t think he’s worth much more than £30m to be honest.

Shows how bad we were when we signed him because he was transformative for us for a bit. We just moved to a different style.

I really don’t get why so many think £30m would be a good price for Tierney. We should be looking for at least £40m. Very good player who is under contract. Player sales are going to be critical to whether we can get all our summer business done, so we need to maximise fees, if we end up selling him :face_exhaling:

He’s a good player, and while he’s not transformative for us, he easily could be for someone else.

If you think about the atmosphere Newcastle are building up in their home games where they go for the kill early on and get the crowd up, Tierney bombing forward on the overlap fits right in.

Let’s be honest though. He’s an injury prone player.
People who want him to stay only want him as back up.
He’s not reliable and will factor in to negotiations.
