Kieran Tierney (3)

I really hope we find a way to keep him about. He’s exactly the type of rotational player you want.

I know he wants to play but even if he goes to Newcastle how long before they are rotating him too. If he wants guaranteed minutes he probably needs to drop a level beneath even them.

Bit conflicting this.

So he’s good enough to be rotation here but not good enough to be a starter for them…

I wouldn’t underestimate how tough it is to find good left backs.

He’s much better than both Burn and Targett.

I don’t doubt he’d be a starter for them, but how much he’d actually play (due to risk of injuries, and actual injuries) is up for debate.

Not what I said (or was trying to say).

They are on a trajectory, if he goes there they’ll inevitably look to upgrade too you’d imagine. Who they have in their squad today is irrelevant.

He can look to move on again down the line though, no?

If he goes now, he’s probably looking at 1-2 years as a starter for one of the best sides in England.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if they offer him better money than us.

Not really a bad deal for him.

The only way it makes sense to sell Tierney is if we get a silly transfer fee and we are able to buy a better player for less money so we make decent a profit to reinvest in more transfers during the summer. This is where we need to start behaving like a big club again. If City or the Barcodes want him, they can stump up £60m+aka the fee Chelsea paid for Marc Cucurella. If anything, the fee for Tierney should be higher as he is a better player!

Would anyone pay 60?

City and Newcastle are not exactly short of money. I guess the point I am making is if we are going to sell we have to make it worth our while. Player is under contract and we would have to find a replacement. We have several priorities in the summer window and don’t want to compromise those, by giving us a problem at left-back if we sell on the cheap.

No strengthening the barcode cunts.

Sell to Villa and nice old Unai if we have to. I absolutely don’t want to though

I just wonder why someone would pay 60 for him and know he’s injury prone when we’re expected to find someone better for less…Why wouldn’t the team buying Tierney just do the same?

This boy is quality and should be starting each game .

I don’t disagree but the reports are that Newcastle, City, and Aston Villa are keen on Tierney. I don’t think we should sell him, because with his injuries, he is getting the same game time this season as he has in previous seasons. BUT, if he is going to be sold, we need to sell for silly money so we can make a profit and sign someone of equal or better quality.

Great choice by Arteta to send him on at the hour mark, also great work by Kieran to not let us down and steady that left hand side.

If we are playing teams like Newcastle away each game, then yes, cause he’s a proper defender, who prioritizes keeping a clean sheet. But in games where we face a low block, KT struggles as going forward he doesn’t offer much other than a decent cross which is wasted as we don’t have tall CF to take advantage of that.

Could be very useful in CL away matches. Zinchenko is great but he’s not a defender.

Think people are fighting a losing battle with this.
From all the reports we’ve seen, Tierney isn’t happy with his situation currently but he is a professional so he’s seeing out this season and will try to help the team when is called upon.

Pretty positive his manager with Scotland(was it Clarke?) addressed the situation and said something along those lines too.

The way I see it:

  • he’s 25, he’ll soon be entering his peak years, he’ll naturally want to play more
  • our tactics don’t favour him which makes it hard for him to get minutes
  • on good wages(probably starter wages)
  • one of the best assets we can trade

Ideally some club abroad come in for him but I imagine only PL clubs will be willing to offer the kind of money we’re looking to sell him. If it’s Newcastle, we might as well rinse them. They probably owe us for Willock.

Tierney is a quality left back but Arteta clearly doesn’t rate him that much. If we can get 55m plus for Tavares and Tierney, we can build around players that Arteta wants.

Tomiyasu can cover right and left and I believe Kiwior can play left as well?

I’d sell to anyone for £50m, less than that we’ll be downgrading the position for no financial gain (bearing in mind cost of replacing)

Tomiglassu (credit: @Calum) can cover the left and right side of his bed given how much time he spends there being injured.

Edit: did a quick search and apparently @Leper came up with Tomiglassu in November. Months before Calum.

Oh, we definitely need somebody to come in for Tavares and Tierney as well.
