I should add, if it is a fuck-up. That’s the sort of multi-million pound fuck-up that would get me fired immediately. Who knew what and why wasn’t he just rested in Dubai?
To have a torn hamstring doesn’t just happen out of nowhere. It’s the result of constant use and little time to properly recover after games.
It’s not even about calling them idiots. Players often carry injuries, and teams have to manage them carefully. It’s always a game of risk and reward.
Laurent Koscielny had ongoing calf issues in 2018. He was being managed, but in the end, he ruptured his Achilles. A similar thing happened in basketball. Kevin Durant had a calf injury with the Warriors, returned for one game, and tore his Achilles.
Arteta has said that Ben White has hidden injuries from the medical team because he wants to play football.
Marvellous.
That’s exactly who I had in mind, Jesus was the other and his world cup injury.
I’m fairly sure you can tear it through a sudden movement.
There are many factors, but a sudden movement is usually how hamstring ruptures occur. Previous hamstring injuries can also increase the risk of tearing.
Exactly. Then can’t be ‘gross negligence from the club’ for sure can it.
That was the bit I found ridiculous.
You would think in this day and age athletes that are worth tens to hundreds of millions of pounds would be getting tested regularly for muscular and skeletal issues, so they can’t just lie through their teeth to play matches.
I’ve seen the word “Negligence” thrown around a lot in here. We have a resident lawyer who is probably laughing at its tenuous, desperate use.
Agreed. I know you’ve been banging the skeletal drum for a while now, so hopefully the powers that be recognise this otherwise the game is at risk of falling into despair on a skeletal level.
Quick full body cancer zap every week ?
They already have enough x-rays and mri scans I’m sure. You can’t just do it as a routine check.
Skeletal
I understand we want someone to blame after another season that promised a lot but now appears to be petering out and while I do think Arteta has to take some blame, our current predicament is not entirely his making. The board/owners/DoF have to shoulder large portion of the blame.
Whatever grand plans we have for the Summer, and for whatever reasons those plans were made, there is no justification for not bolstering the attack in January. We were thin going into Jan. We can’t be that skint that a couple of loan deals would have severely affected our Summer plans. So either the club is clueless or decided they were okay if the season completely unraveled and we ended up with just the top 4 trophy again, if that. Either way, they messed up big time.
This again
Arteta imo deliberately slowed down our build-up play to be less intense on the players - to make it sustainable throughout the season. Same fans crying about putting too much on players bodies with pressing are the ones who cry how boring our attacking play has been. Damned no matter what he tried. Sub a player and we lose/dont sub and grind out a game, neither option satisfies
I don’t think people would mind the slow build up if it meant we could create quality chances and finish them.
Also looking at distance ran, our players run a lot of Km per game.
Our ‘off the ball’ game is arguably better and more effective at getting us results than our on the ball game.
But it appears to require engines across the whole pitch.
How the likes of Partey and Timber haven’t broken down yet is beyond me.
Is that really true though or is it because he’s become a more defensive minded coach with hardly any variety.
The way he makes them play isn’t much less intense even with snail pace build up factored in
though a loss, i wont say a major loss. he was ridiculously ineffective in front of goal, though a body will be missed, it wont be a great loss imo
