What’s that phrase you kept saying regarding the Eddie contract? Two things can be true at once?
Sort of like how we could replace an outgoing goalkeeper and look for a forward as well. And that they aren’t mutually exlcusive options?

I certainly hope both those things are true. We’ll see what happens over the next day. I’d like to think they recognize our window to win won’t be open forever and it’s not like this is a new gap in the squad. It’s been an issue for the last three windows.
I’m sure they recognise it. As I’ve said in other threads, it really seems to be an issue of quality in the game right now and ultimately availability of targets, alongside the practical hurdles that come with buying an elite attacker.
I still think we should be testing Nico Williams’ desire to remain at Bilbao. But then again, perhaps we already are.
If we sign Garcia it will bring Arteta’s transfer spending on GK’s to around 100m, as well as selling Martinez, Leno and Ramsdale, who are all perfectly good at their job.
Wenger viewed GK transfer business as an occupational hazard and would spend as little as possible but Arteta buys and sells them like they’re a hot potato.

Yups, GK + CDM were the two key positions Wenger refused to invest proper money into. Took the club almost 20 years to find actual replacements for Vieria/Gilberto.
and the two we could find were both injury prone in Diaby & Partey (Arteta signing).
If only Alonso signed with us in 2014 
My worry with Arteta is he’s neglected the forward positions quite a lot, whilst spending tons on full-backs (rightly so) and GKs.
But I think we’re gonna go big in LW/RW and ST positions in the next 12-18 months and maybe even CAM depending on how Nwaneri turns out; those seem to be the areas with the biggest gaps for us at the moment.

Still remember listening to John Cross talk about how we were signing Mark Schwarzer and the relief I felt knowing it wouldn’t be another season with Almunia.
