Bloody sick of this argument now. For years upon years we had hundreds of millions sitting there not being spent whilst the squad rotted. The money piled up more and more. Now we have spent a chunk, we have vastly increased our sponsorship deals and revenue in general and also now have CL everyone is crapping themselves because we have spent some money for a change.
I agree, when we moved to the Emirates we went from title challengers to to four trophy fodder, selling our best players every season and replacing them with dross, while the board were accumulating massive profits.
This is why it’s so frustrating when mid table clubs like Chelsea and Man City come along, outspending every other club in Europe to buy trophies they don’t deserve.
We’ve had to put up with no spending for way too long and although we’ve spent big in recent seasons it’s no more than we deserve.
That’s just not the case. Our investment in recent years was made possible by loans from KSE and will need to be repaid.
Arsenal’s spending will need to substantially reduce in the next few years as we’re already seeing this summer.
Doubt they are owning a football club simply to make annual profits tbh, the value comes when you sell up. Best thing to do is keep the club at the top so the overall valuation is at its peak when the time comes to part ways.
Sure, they won’t just do a roman and keep throwing money down the shitter, but how many football clubs actually run at a year on year surplus?
In 22/23 it was 3 of 20 in the PL, one of those being Brighton thanks to Caicedo and another being city (lol), leaving Bournemouth as the true valid case. Won’t argue with Brighton, big sales are part of the game but we all know Chelsea are bonkers too and it’s not sustainable.
We still paying off the stadium as well.
I agree that KSE have shown a lot of willingness to invest in Arsenal and that year on year profits clearly aren’t the be all and end all.
But when you look at the fact that Arsenal are being very diligent with PSR for example and that KSE have worked very hard since sacking Sanllehi to make sure there are sound financial decisions being made that they do expect it to operate sensibly. Up front investment from KSE to restore the brand over the last few summers makes sense. And it also makes sense that now the brand is strong that that investment would now be scaled back and the club would financially focus on consolidation.
The recruitment strategy of buying in players for the long term with some key experience added in also suggests the plan is not for continuous £200 million summers.
I think this is an oversimplification though. I do agree that under the Wenger years we didn’t spend as much as we probably should have & I’m beyond happy that we are now spending to get to the top.
However, we have spent a lot of money in the last 5 years even with the sponsorship revenues increasing; we will need to recoup costs.
We outlaid £105m on Declan Rice alone, I can’t see us doing mad £200m summer windows every season without folk also leaving for good money too.
Except there is a major difference between being clearly within certain parameters and being close to not being within said parameters.
Your initial point was around 15m being significant because of FFP/PSR and thus it should be spent in a specific way with respect to that. That’s quite different to acknowledging the club doing their due dilligence around meeting the requirements generally.
Fair enough if you aren’t interested in debating the complexities of certain things, but if your posts are based around unfounded or inaccurate information and subsequently posted on a public forum, then you have to accept others may critique said posts.
It’s nothing personal, but I think you have quite a distinct and definitive way of viewing things and I think that invites discussions like the one we are having now. For me, when people post/talk in this fashion, my initial reaction is almost always “why/on what basis do you say that”. So yeah, nothing personal, just one of the realities of the forum.
Safe to say this is happening if Ramsdale goes Southampton
May not be so easy.

£21m rc
Transfer window soon closes so they gotta speed up the drama for the clicks. Bless them.
Lol we better not pay more for this new guy than we get for Ramsdale ![]()
to think we’re gonna probably spend more on Garcia than what we got for Ramsdale ![]()
They can fuck off with that 30m shit. Just give Woj a call and Espanyol can get to fuck
Would just keep Ramsdale then, sorry for him if he’s rarely gonna play but why even make the switch for the same money.
They’re going for a player with a release clause plus they know we’re selling the 2nd choice
We have no leverage here, well within their right to not accept that offer tbh
Mikel’s obsession with GK’s continues ![]()
This guy is probably on shit wages and would be happy to be a cup keeper. He might also be Raya’s successor in 2-3 years. A lot of people seem to rate him really highly in Spain.
Ramsdale is on big wages, wants to leave, and never going to be Raya’s successor.
Spending 30m on a backup keeper while still having Nelson as our rotation option? Seems reasonable to me.
