Jeff Reine-Adelaide

Basically this is what it comes down too. But is seems people have blindfolds on and only can see for how much Coutinho was sold for and have forgotten how much difficulty it costs to get the likes of Bendtner of the books.

Idiot

We were meant to keep him. Not play him (because he was nowhere near good enough for our first team), and then just pray a load of teams wanted his signature.

Thats how it works.

He was fucking useless the night we played Sutton in the cup.

Fiscal reasons aside, I think what frustrates a few of our fans is that we had a player less than 12 months ago in the team that our coaches deemed not good enough for us. But almost immediately he is potentially looking good enough for the likes of Milan, Dortmund and Lyon to want him. Teams much better than us.

Those teams are not better than us. Actually whooped Napoli who are on the same level as the three you mentioned.

I just wish we played him enough and made him look good enough that he’d got for more than £1.5 fucking million pounds.

Like we did Joel before deciding to keep him and fucking him up as well :arteta:

After his Emirates cup performance, I can imagine he’d have went for more than that.

I just wish we’d be able to guage our talent better.

Sorry man, maybe I’m still sour from the finish we had last season but I can still build a case for saying a couple of them are better us (forget AC Milan).

If someone wants to hit that thread up and lambast how we have dealt with his time here I’ll be right there beside them but I just can’t agree there’s been a mistake made on this one.

I’m curious what that case would be? That Dortmund side are maybe even more awful than us mentally if you see how they gave the title away. Apart from Reus and Sancho their players aren’t great either. Too say that Lyon is a better side is even more laughable. N’Dombele and Fekir might have a great future, but that is it. Except for those two and maybe Aouar and Dembele not one single Lyon player has anything for Arsenal.

If this was a rare occurrence I’d maybe understand the dismissiveness of the loss. The fact is this happens time and time again. Arsenal losing a talented young player for less than they’re worth.

We sold Reine and that can happens but only 10% sell on clause? No buy-back clause? Man Utd were in the same exact position in regards to Januzaj who had a year left on his contract.
Buy-back clause secured. If he comes good and other teams start sniffing around for him, we can sell at a higher price or even use them if they’re good enough.

@SDGooner mentioning Coutinho in relation to Liverpool’s sells only tells a tiny bit of their story. Jordan Ibe, Danny Ward, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Stewart, Sakho, Benteke, Ings…Liverpool consistently get value.

Except it wouldn’t mean anything if Brendan Rodgers was still making decisions there in stead of Jurgen Klopp.

It would mean they’re still making money. Liverpool (in)famously have a transfer committee running things.

Buy back clauses are completely over rated. They shouldn’t even be called that tbh, they are in fact just first options to buy or an ability to match. I know we made it work for Vela but the reality is if we’d gotten to the negotiating stage with him the chances of him coming back were practically zero. 10% sell on is perfectly fine.

Who else has this happened with apart from Gnabry?

Liverpool was absolute dogshite for 20-25 years, apart from the famous Istanbul match. Until a certain fella stepped in. Now suddenly their organisational structure means something? Come on bruh.

Tbf Rodgers bought Coutinhio. It was him who first played and gave Sterling starts.

My poor case would have been that they are playing CL football (not coherent, I know). But regardless of that point, it’s not one I feel too strongly about to defend with any zest.

But as you say, these teams have the likes of Reus, Sancho, Aouar, Fekir etc etc in their squads. If the scouts of these teams reckon Jeff can mix with these guys, why would he not be good enough for Arsenal? This was the point I was making.

Your way off with 20 years mate. Champions three times in 86 88 90.

Because they think he’s good enough with a full season involving 30 games under his belt doesn’t mean he was good enough with 1 or 2 years less experience while at us. If they’re so great at talent spotting where were they a year ago when they could have got him for a Mars bar and a pint of John Smith’s?

Those are ~five guys. So there are 45 other guys at Dortmund and Lyon who have nothing to offer Arsenal. Reine-Adelaide might aswell be in the latter category.

That is why the talk by some posters here on this board that Arsenal has no business in the CL is absolute bullshit. We are better than 70% of the team next season participating.

Exactly. It’s only the latter stages we have no business in.
