Has this actually got legs?
I can’t see it happening.

8 goals and 7 assists from 31 matches in the PL is a pretty good return from midfield no?
11 goals and 10 assists in 42 matches in all competitions (2 and 2 in 6 in the EL).
He looked really good at the start of the season and was key to Leicester’s success, I’d be keen to sign him but not for more than £50m.
He’s only 24 as well, so there’s every chance he develops and goes on to reach new levels increasing resale value.
I agree with this.
I’d like Grealish here instead, too, but there’s every reason that with the right training and nurturing, Maddison can exceed Grealish as a player.
2 years left on his current contract, so they probably think they can get him close to his transfermarkt valuation of £49.50m. Where as Grealish has a longer contract
ArsenalBell is the highest ranked ITK off last summer
He’s a very good player, playing for a club who are top four contenders, with a great manager and an owner that is one of the most respected in Europe.
Why would he even think about coming here?
What’s his salary at Leicester ? He’d probably get 200k a week here.
Because we’re a bigger club with loads more money
We won’t be ‘interested’ without checking with his agent if he’s interested in coming
£110k
Ok so we’d probably double it give or take.
He played 42 games last season.
This has all the hallmarks of when Vardy used us to get his improved contract at Leicester.
Might want to play for a coach that can get through Slavia Prague
Any player mad enough to prefer playing for Arteta rather than Rodgers would definitely be mad enough to come here.
Maddison isn’t the technician that Ødegaard is, but he’s a much bigger goal threat and is more direct. He’s still great in tight spaces, lovely touch and close control.
But the difference is that Ødegaard is going to cost £40-50m (if Madrid even wish to sell him) whilst Maddison will cost £20-30m more.
Good player but there’s no value to be had here. As others have said, you might as well bid for Grealish at that price point.
I get the feeling that Leicester are shopping Maddison around because he has 2 years on his contract and isn’t interested in re-signing. This in a Covid market likely brings his price down a fair bit. Transfermakt values him at £50m and I could see that’s what he goes for this window
I’d put money on him signing a new contract.
I remember seeing Leicester fans say he fell out with Rodgers recently. Not sure if it was just speculation with him being off form.
We should be targeting players who are effective in the final third. We’ve too many players who are passengers when the ball gets close to the penalty area.
No goal threat from our CMs, Saka and ESR aren’t goal scorers, odegaard isn’t a goal scorer, Pepe can be but he can also not touch the ball for 4 games in a row, shit fullbacks (without Tierney)
With that in mind adding a player like Maddison who does have that eye for goal is really important to the balance of the team IMO and id much rather that profile than odegaard who may make more passes but isn’t actually particularly effective at directly contributing to goals.
In conjunction with an attack minded CAM we should be partnering Partey with a 8 who is a technician and can help link all round play.
On Grealish, I think people are massively understimating the fee required to get 5yr contract villa to talk vs Leicester for 2yr contract Maddison. Not comparable IMO.
It’s your Grealish, Maddison, Odegaard levels of players who are the only option for elevating this team.
It’s no good trying too be clever now. We got two kids in Saka and ESR as a bonus now invest.
The gap in real terms too the four is big there’s only one realistic way of getting there.
You can’t cheat the system. Others have caught up by realising this.
I think he’d raise the level of the squad but the trouble with buying established top prem stars is that they are usually on big contracts, require even bigger contracts and cost an arm and a leg.
Wish we could assemble top quality teams at a net cost more like clubs such as Athletico, Dortmund, Leicester and co over the years. Otherwise we are on a bit of a zero sum/losing game unless the Kroenke’s become willing to throw a very large amount of money at the problem which does not seem likely.
Whatever way they go though, think this squad needs a lot of money spent wisely to even get us into top 4 regularly. At present we need L plate Arteta to perform well above his experience which is just not gonna happen and it looks like he’s here to stay at least until 2022.
