James Bond

I’m a big fan of the police series S.W.A.T. and I know that James Bond should always be an English gentleman, but…and it’s a big BUT, if it were to go to an American actor, the guy who plays the lead in this series, Shemar Moore, would, in my humble opinion, be a very good Bond…He’s smooth, tough, good looking, and comes across as a good guy…

Tbh, the only way I could be cool with a female or black Bond is if the current Moneypenny gets put back in the field and gets double 0 status.

She was a field agent in Skyfall, the audience loves her, she’s a great actress, her character has earned the opportunity after 5 films and has earned the audiences respect etc.

I would actually rate her as a potential Bond, or maybe a Bond spinoff series (god forbid) if they decided that.

110% unlikely though as I think it’s very clear that the Craig Bond universe is dead now.

Shame, as I loved Ralph Fiennes as M as well and Ben Whishaw as Q although they did have Q’s reprise his role in all the Bond movies up until his death so never say never.

@DavidHillier

Lets put it this way. The standouts for each actor are as follows.

Connery: From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. I love all of these as well but those two are on another level.

Moore: He’s my bond I love them all. Worst of the bunch is probably View to a Kill but cmon Grace Jones and Christopher Walken make it amazing regardless.

Dalton/Lazenby: Meh

Brosnan: Goldeneye the rest meh

Craig: Casino Royal the rest mehhh

There are many factors for me in how I rate a bond film. Villain has to be good, and Christopher Lee is an all time great imo. I also judge it based upon how Bond resolves beating said villain. Man with the golden gun has one of the coolest Bond moments with how he outsmarts his opponent. Bond girl is hawt, and there’s a midget villain, and a 3rd nipple, and a car chase in china with a bunch of racial stereotypes being flung all around, classic Bond cornball. Hard not to rate this one very highly for me.

Yep totally agree.

Although, I’m going to be outlandish here and say that Licence to Kill is a top, top film. It beats almost all of Roger Moore’s stuff after Moonraker.

(Live and Let Die is such a cool movie. Some of the opening New York bits with Roger Moore are amazing)

Wholeheartedly agree with all this.

The reintroduction of that cop from the deep South was a masterstroke, too.

“I sure am, boy!”

Live and Let Die is probably my favorite Bond. Doing a Bond movie in the blaxploitation genre was such a bold and different choice and they pulled it off so well. The Harlem scenes that could have been outtakes from Across 110th St, all the weird voodoo shit, the bayou boat chase, Yaphet Kotto was a great primary villain, the dude with the hook arm…it all holds up really well.

Although Bond has always copied (bit of a harsh way of saying it) whatever genre / style / setting is big at the time. I’ve always wanted to to love Live and let Die but I can never enjoy it, don’t know why. My surprise Roger Moore love is View to a Kill.

Spot on. @DavidHillier mentioned how much he enjoyed License to Kill yesterday, but I was never a fan of the later 80s Bond films for exactly this reason. It felt like Bond was dumped in the Scarface universe more than it being a Bond film imo anyways.

I must say Live and let die and Golden gun are the top two for me. With the risk of being unpopular I also rate Octopussy right up there (no I’m not just being a biased Swede cos of Maud Adams and Kristina Wayborn). Thunderball is pretty underrated too.
Who’s the best bond? For me it’s a very close call between Connery and Moore. They both have their good and bad moments. I’m however a big fan of Dalton, who I consider deserved more chances.
