Arteta not trusting him to see out the match.
Mans a liability…
Any player could get caught the way he did today. Hes been very solid overall this recent run where we’ve needed him.
I know its technically his job but ill never underestimate how difficult it is to basically come into the team cold like he has to and perform to a good level.
Find the way Arteta has handled him a bit frustrating. You’ve signed a very competent CB, tried to experiment with him at left back and then when faced with an injury issue on the weekend you’ve opted to play a midfielder out of position rather than keep Timber at RB and let Kiwior play at CB.
The stop start nature of his game time, often playing out of position and the fact Arteta doesn’t seem taking trust him will do his confidence no good.
I agree, BUT maybe he is not performing in training? Arteta must believe the combo he started to be more likely to keep a clean sheet than a line up incl Kiwior.
Also some of the mistakes I have seen from Kiwior could easily be replicated as CB
Don’t see what the point was retaining him at all
Clearly not trusted and when chips are down won’t rely on him, but he could rely on Rob Holding previously?
Waste of everyone’s time having him here
If Gabriel was injured I’m sure Kiwior would’ve come in next to Saliba.
Gabriel - Kiwior doesn’t work and Jakub has made mistakes almost every time he’s come in this season. Not hard to see why Arteta didn’t trust him for the weekend.
Would be getting games at LB if skelly didn’t emerge.
He’s made quite a few costly errors already this season when he was relied upon(Liverpool, Fulham, Bournemouth and Palace off the top of my head).
I wouldn’t have been comfortable seeing him against Watkins or Duran.
He’s a decent player and naturally he needs a couple of games under him to properly get going, but I also don’t think he’s an ideal fit for Arteta.
He’s been used at times but he just doesn’t have the same standing as the other FB/CBs in White, Timber, Tomiyasu and Calafiori. He certainly doesn’t have the same standing as CB compared to Saliba and Gabriel.
Part of it for me has always been his passive style. One thing Arteta loves in his players and especially defenders is being brave and front-footed. Kiwior ain’t a slacker but when you compare them to our other defenders, he’s nowhere near them in that aspect.
Had we not had so many injuries in our defence I feel like he would’ve been moved on already. I think he’s staying this January but he’s probably one of the players that will be available in the summer.
The alternative is playing Partey out of position
We don’t fair too well with him at RB so yeah let’s keep flogging that dead horse
Correlation doesn’t equal causation.
From the games Partey played RB, which ones was he responsible for us not winning?
Let’s see:
- Liverpool, error from Kiwior lead to Liverpool’s equaliser. Partey had a great game against Diaz and Gakpo
- Newcastle, decent game. Team barely gave Newcastle a chance but as is usually the case this season they scored off the only real chance they created(from the other side).
- Fulham, decent game. Again, team barely gave them a chance, and they scored off the only real chance they created and what do you know, Kiwior was at error.
- Brighton, decent game. Barely gave them a chance and we conceded a questionable penalty.
- Villa, error for the equaliser, had a decent game otherwise.
He doesn’t have to be directly responsible though
Because guess what when you move him to RB you’re removing his influence from the midfield or at the very least diminishing it significantly
Please with this man, plugging one hole to leave a gap in another
Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because he doesn’t want two left-footed CB’s playing together. As ridiculous as it sounds, we know he can be weird like that.
Ok, which of the games mentioned do you think that happened?
Don’t think that was the case against Liverpool and Villa at least. I guess you could debate this against Fulham, Brighton and Newcastle.
However, for us to use him at RB means we have a big miss somewhere, so we’re losing quality anyway.
Just in the ones I’ve mentioned there’s two costly errors from Kiwior who’s a CB. So say if we replaced Saliba with Kiwior, there’s no guarantee that would’ve worked better, there’s a chance it could have been worse.
Using it in for three games is enough for me lol
You can’t be doing this in a so called fight for the title
Indeed, you can’t challenge for the title with the injuries we’ve had. Somehow, someway, we’re just about holding on.
You see @GC-Maniac it’s all well and good what you’ve written but we’ve had Partey at right back for 6 games this season and we’ve conceded in all 6 of those games and won only 1 of them.
The stats don’t lie we suffer with Partey at right back. You can talk about Kiwior little errors here and there but there’s no way anyone can convince me that leaving him on the bench and using Partey at RB is the better option.
Kiwior once again quietly slips in and puts in a solid 7
Kiwimore of him please.
I expect he will want more minutes however, he is an excellent use to the squad and very capable when compared to the likes of what we had to depend on in the past.
If you excuse that blunder in the first half.
It’s why it annoys me that we opt for Partey at right back when we literally NEVER win with him at right back lol.
