Grealish is essentially an upgrade on Bernardo.
Guy is done there. Wonder who picks him up. I doubt anyone abroad can afford him. Must be either us or Liverpool.
Hearing Barca got a cash injection, maybe they work something out?
I was looking at Bernardo’s stats there and he played most of his games last season at CM, and CAM, 2 goals 6 assists in the league. I really thought he had a better season than that. I suppose he’s maybe one of those technicians like Santi that just influence play outside the G/As. Though I don’t think he could come here and be as influential as he is at City. Maddison/Martinez or probably better links right now but I suppose if they dried up as deadline day approached I’d be excited on Bernardo.
I think I would take Odegaard over Bernardo, both have passive mentalities but to be fair to Odegaard he came here with a point to prove and definitely didn’t shy away. Going from Pep ball to whatever the fuck we are with Bernardo could end up a dead duck.
I tend to lean towards Bernardo having seen him produce a top quality season (in the PL). I know people talk about Odegaard having a great season at Real Saucy Dads, I guess I’m not qualified to speak on whether it matched up to Bernardo’s stand out season as I didn’t see any of it. If I thought it was a case of Bernardo being past it I’d lean towards Ode, but I think Bernardo would easily be a cut above anything we have here and would have a transformative effect on the football we play, to a greater extent than I think Odegaard did for us last season, or likely would next season. So I’d lean towards Bernardo’s proven quality over Odegaards hunger and Bernardo’s perceived/predicated lack of hunger.
Not to rubbish your opinion or anything, I get where you’re coming from. Like I said the other day when discussing these two and Maddison, beggars really can’t be choosers.
I agree.
They’re both good players but Bernado is past his peak and wouldn’t be as motivated here, coming from the best team in Europe, playing with the best players and manager.
We would give him a massive contract and he could end up like Ozil, Aubameyang, Willian, and every other older player we’ve had on massive wages.
Odegaard still has potential and, if he didn’t work out, we would probably be able to get a decent fee for him.
Saying that, I still prefer Maddison over either of them.
Why would Villa fans be different to any other set of fans? There will always be a cohort who as soon as a player is done with a club will call then shit and a cunt.
Yeh I mean I don’t necessarily disagree I’m certainly not as hyped on Odegaard as some, in many ways it would probably suit our needs more having Bernardo as he’s 26 and ready to play to his full ability. Odegaard is far too comparable to ESR in his development right now and while that’s not a bad thing I just think having both could sting us down the line.
Come on, as if that matters. I even see some fans of League of Ireland clubs doing the same thing when players are leaving what isn’t even a fully professional league to join Championship teams in England or an SPL side.
To be fair, some of their older fans would remember them winning the league title and European Cup but they’re really are deluded if they really thought Buendia, ESR and Grealish were all going to play in their midfield.
Although I quite like Aston Villa as they were the last team I saw us play at Highbury, when we beat them 5-0, and it could have been more.
