Even the Israelis are giving him credit or cursing him for forcing the deal.
Not sure Democrats have anything to do with this
I wonder what excuse Israel is going to find on the 21st to break this.
Hamas’ statement
The ceasefire agreement is the result of the legendary resilience of our great Palestinian people and our valiant resistance in the Gaza Strip, which sustained for over 15 months.
Hamas are absolutely detestable. Thank goodness Israel took a lot of their key leaders and made them pay for what they subjected onto civilians. It would have sucked big time if none of Hamas’ leaders were impacted for their acts.
I see Israel are getting in some last minute killing before the ceasefire begins.
Sunday…
Israel has shown how quickly it can build homes on Palestinian land in the past, let’s hope they get working next week to replace all the homes it bombed.
Don’t be surprised to see them rebuild northern Gaza, and then fill those homes with Israelis.
This ceasefire deal has fucked my head.
It was so easy for Trump to get this done. So fucking easy. Not even in the office and he pulled it off.
That means the Israeli hostages & shit load of Palestinian lives were in hands of these negotiator and could have been resolved with few agreeable terms and they dragged it on.
There was a diplomatic solution and It was only a matter of motivation to use it.
How many lives were lost due to that delay?
Why do we have such heartless assholes in charge of world politics?
Fuck me. I hate USA’s influence on world politics so much right now.
It appears the truth is a little more complex than suggesting Trump got this done. From today’s Guardian "According to a senior Biden administration official, Trump and Biden’s teams forged an unlikely partnership to secure the complex ceasefire during a transition marked by animosity and distrust."
Looks like it may have been a team effort, though I agree this really should have happened earlier.
I think that’s undoubtedly true, but I suspect that it was the hardliners in Israel that were preventing any ceasefire. Probably because they knew that the Biden administration weren’t going to do much to pressure them.
What value addition would Trump have(especially in one month of being elected) that Biden needed to pull this off?
I am sure operationally it was the case because dude is not even in the office. They could do all the legwork and it only matters when someone like Trump has the motivation or incentive to get it done.
Biden needs to hang his head in shame.
We’ve seen the savagery of Israel and the duplicity of its propaganda in the last year plus so excuse me for my skepticism about this whole thing. As the story listed above they’ve just slaughtered another 32 people.
If the reporting is correct then my first thought is the Israelis know they’ve got a blank check with Trump as long as they make it look good for him. He’s already promised the likes of Mariam Adelson he would allow Israel to annex the entire West Bank.
Hey, I won’t be surprised if this is just fluff talks.
There will always be compromise. And if you ask me, I would prioritise life over land. If people can stop dying by letting go of some land, feck it.
Regroup, strengthen and recapture the land in a later date.
Bingo.
Its convenient for both Trump and Netanyahu to pretend that this came about via Trump’s threats. Trump gets to look tough and Bibi gets to pretend he had no choice. But these two are completely transactional and self-interested people. There is obviously a deal in place and it very likely involves the Trump administration giving the green light to Israel going even further in annexing and/or ethnic cleansing the West Bank.
Its important to remember that “Judea and Samaria” (ie, the West Bank) is everything for the Israeli far right. In comparison, they don’t really give a shit about Gaza, which has no religious or strategic importance in the big picture.
You’re not suggesting that this is politicians playing games with people’s lives are you?
I’m shocked.
One thing is for sure, the death and destruction in Gaza and elsewhere is squarely on the shoulders of Biden.
He could have ended Israels aggression months and months ago but chose not to and is now trying to take credit for the same ceasefire deal that was refused by Netanyahu.
Genocide Joe.
Is that an unreasonable demand?
If it was part of the agreement reached, no. Otherwise, yes.
