Nothing to see here
Sometimes I think back to how sensitive some people were when people compared the actions of Israel to that of Nazi Germany.
The parallels are scary.
Up until the aftermath of 7 October 2023, the great genius of the Israeli establishment was convincing the masses that criticism of Israeli government action was basically thinly veiled genocidal anti-Jewish sentiment.
I was among those who felt it wasn’t a helpful comparison. In my case it was because of the emotive connection. I felt it was a comparison that couldn’t be made without taking the focus off of what it belongs in in this situation. It moved the conversation somewhere else.
But the Israeli government has just continued to escalate this genocide and I don’t think there’s condemnation strong enough for it.
Hope you didn’t think my post was a dig at you btw. It wasn’t even specific to anyone on this forum more just the wider denial at the time!
I didn’t have anyone on the forum in mind when I wrote that post and I do remember largely agreeing with your position that it takes the conversation somewhere it doesn’t need to go. Just obviously now all this time later the parallels are genuinely scary.
The message might carry more weight if we hadn’t all witnessed many videos of IDF soldiers in Gaza mocking dead Palestinians and glorifying the violence they had committed against Palestinians.
Shameless hypocritical scum.
(Yes, I’m kinda just repeating part of the text on the image, but it’s what I was already thinking when I saw this quote earlier today elsewhere)
You have to expect our politicians to stand up for their right to try and cover up the government’s failure with the welfare bill by trumpeting this issue to be some kind of national scandal.
Ok whether you agree with what Bob Vylan did or not. Up to you to decide. Take whatever position you like.
Let’s mention we got our Prime Minister playing moral arbiter just a couple days before a vote which will punish the disabled which he supports. Oh sorry the pussy walked some that back. We’re going to enforce inequality based on whether you were disabled early enough.
Incredible.
How dare you sing ‘fuck the SS!’ don’t you know that’s not nice!!!
That guy was an absolute twat, and I wont lose any sleep when he is eventually punished.
Regardless of how you feel, of even if you would agree with a lot of Vylan’s opinions, you can’t take to a public stage and call for the death of people.
And I’m sure there will be multiple examples of people getting away with doing the same thing.
He’s inspired me to take to the streets of Essex and murder every member of the IDF I come across, of which there are many.
Glastonbury is broadcast globally, not just Essex
Interesting…
I always thought you had a liberal/loose view of speech issues like this.
I get the outrage but its overdone imo. The IDF doesn’t mean all jews or Israelis after all, I’m seeing some crazy takes to justify the link antisemitism.
I am liberal when it comes to most forms of free speech, but there has to be a line. I’m certainly not a free speech absolutist.
That’s Elon’s claim
So you’re concerned that this performance may have incited Israelis or Palestinians to murder members of the IDF?
I very much take it in the same way I’d view the sentiment of ‘defund the police’. He isn’t suggesting people go and murder soldiers
Well yes, there is also the point that the IDF is an institution, and calling for the death, or end, of an institution does not necessarily equate to calling for the death of everyone involved with that institution.
It just so happens that I have no problem with someone calling for the death of soldiers involved in a war of aggression and genocide and in this case I don’t think it can even reasonably be described as realistic incitement to violence given the geography of the matter.
He clearly said “def to the idf”—he wants them all to become hard of hearing.
Fun fact: During the British Mandate of Palestine, Irgun - a zionist paramilitary org (terrorist organisation, btw) - carried out various acts of terrorism. One such incident, in 1947, became known as the “Sergeants Affair” where 2 British Army sergeants were kidnapped by Irgun and hanged from trees near Netanya. Their bodies were booby-trapped so anyone who came to recover the bodies would also be killed.
The person who led Irgun at this time was none other than Menachim Begin whom the Israelis would elect PM in 1977. There are still many dedications and monuments to this terrorist in Israel today.
Funny how zionists are now, in 2025, seeing calls for attacks against military forces, occupational forces?, as beyond the pale.
“It’s okay when I do it!”
