He was a bit of a cunt, wasn’t he? Yellows for Zubi and Kai were ridiculous.
This was probably the first European match I’ve watched in about 5 years where I’ve found myself missing the likes of Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor…
Definitely looked like Havertz messing up real-time but knew there must’ve been something to it when Havertz was furious. You could see the ref then telling him there wasn’t a enough of an impact either so he definitely saw the impact.
That replay was as clear as it gets, this is the stuff VAR was introduced for. Robbery in plain sight.
Can’t watch due to fucking geoblock but it didn’t look like a terrible call during the game. Are there some better angles out there?
As I mentioned elsewhere, it’s 100% a penalty. And if it’s a penalty and Havertz was in a goal-scoring opportunity (he was, he was shaping to curl it on the floor around Pickford who had failed to narrow the angle enough) then VAR should really have been considering whether the foul play denied that goal-scoring opportunity.
A red card was in play. I’m 100% certain that’s why they bottled it.
It’s clear that the studs come down on the back of Havertz’s ankle.
VAR say he was already going to ground, but he wasn’t, he was just changing his body position to block the defender from coming around the side of him.
Very poor decision, and as said above to spend 5 seconds on it no matter the end result is inexcusable
Only just saw a vid of that.
Yet again.i have to imagine if the ref is shown that he gives the pen 100 times from 100. VAR is an utter failure in terms of how it has been implemented.
It would have been a red as well since he is through on goal and he makes no attempt to play the ball. Changes the game.
In the end, the way this game plays out is waaaay more satisfactory. But it is a failure from the ref/var team nonetheless.
Much like me, the VAR only focused on the arms and didn’t notice the stamp.
They should add it in their checklist to double check other focus areas as well.
Our players should also ensure they point out the area of impact so ref can ask the VAR to check.
Very similar to the David Luiz red/penalty against Wolves except this one was actually much more blatant as he actually stamps the ankle.
Well they spent a whole 5 seconds looking into it so no wonder they missed something if true.
Makes one wonder how they decide to microscope 5 different phases of play in some actions and bursh others aside in a blink of an eye.
I think for once there is nowhere for the PGMOL to hide on this one. I’ve not heard one pundit defend them, the video image above provides prima facie evidence. This is exactly why we have VAR and the VAR officials have to take the blame.
And of course, a straight red. I maintain that they bottled it which still isn’t good enough.
I’m very interested to see if the FA/EPL have the bollocks to charge Arsenal because our subs ran onto the field of play when Dowman scored. If they refuse to acknowledge the penalty fuck-up and refuse to understand a very special and unique moment of pure joy then we will know for certain that they’re a bunch of cunts. I also think and hope the club will have something to say about it.
The PL won’t get involved because the media already have the celebration police that deal with that sort of thing. ![]()
I think the Celebration Police Complaints Authority will find in favour of Arsenal on this occasion. It’s not an unexpected winner against lowly opposition or even an early season winner at a difficult ground. That moment represents the very passion and spontaneity of football, youngest goalscorer in the EPL is not just fans and players getting a bit carried away. The images will be used to advertise the EPL product for decades.
However, people who spend their lives wearing suits are largely disconnected from feelings so let’s see what happens.
That one on Martinelli in particular had me raging
