According to Ref Watch, Liverpool goal was onside because there is a 5cm tolerance 
PL apparently had the rule in place for 4 years.

That Newcastle goal against City seems like an example of where it was.
How on earth you explain that Martinelli goal against Brighton/Brentford? a couple of years back being ruled out with this knowledge is beyond me though.

Seems like another thing that can be exploited. Apparently in CL the semi auto offside is correct to the mm. In the PL they kept the tolerance because of desire for thicker lines.
They tried to bail out their mates and it didnāt work.
