Watching it live I honestly thought 50-50 as to if it would be red or yellow.
What I do get some disgruntlement about is, given it was given yellow on-field can you categorically say that’s a “ clear and obvious error” ? From watching a lot of EPL I’ve seen a lot more what I deem more clear and obvious errors not overturned.
In saying that, at least it’s more red card worthy than our previous 2.
What you can guarantee is they will take any opportunity to punish us, thus agenda. It’s bollocks cause we’ll see one of ours go through on goal like that, tugged back, yellow given and no review.
We are having this strange season where we don’t get away with much. The Calafiori tackle that could have been a Red is the only one we got away with in my memory.
And yes, Saliba deserved the Red. No arguments there.
Firstly, we played shit! In so many facets, players lazy to run (Sterling), shit backpasses without due thought. Saliba knew he was last line, get in the foot race and if we concede, so be it, it was Bournemouth not City!
Secondly IF the ref had given a red, fair enough.
BUT! We get told all the time that VAR is not there to re-referee a game, yet we will now be shown 50 angles and measurements and any other BS they can dream of to show “letter of the law”(new catch phrase of 2024) it was a red BUT it is SUBJECTIVE. Also Webb has said that he (they) wanted ref decision to carry the most weight in decisions this season - that being the case there is no way VAR can step up and interfere.
I have said it before and will keep saying it - PGMOL is corrupt and not fit for purpose. The people who manage the refs cannot also oversee the selection of refs, and review their own decisions. Selection of referees should be a lottery system each week, and an independent entity should be overseeing that process.
We can play shit and also get fucked over by PGMOL and neither should be overlooked or excused.
Of course Sky come out and say that Webb has no communication with the VAR room. They are all patting each other on the back haha.
The over arching theme so far has been that the refs/var have been far too involved in the outcome of a lot of the football that is being played in the EPL. We’ve dealt with our fair share of involvements with them but other teams are too. It just feels like it’s always a theme in at least a quarter of the games played in the EPL, every week (when international football isn’t taking precedent).
It’s so frustrating to try and believe that we wear rose tinted glasses when analysing decisions that go against us but it really feels like there is a force against us sometimes.
Nothing to do but avoid giving them something to work with.
We want to be good enough to beat teams without fouling in ways that can result in red cards. We have to aim for getting enough margins in the scoreline, without. Embrace the challenge.
I can’t help but feel it’s marginally corrupt tbh.
The sending offs vs Brighton and City for things that often don’t even see a yellow card.
The upgrade last night, 95 % of the time that stays on field call as they’ll use the fall back of “ not clear and obvious “ “ subjective “ but last night apparently that wasn’t the case.
I think it was a red card yesterday, but I have questions as to whether or not it was a “clear and obvious” error. I have an issue with “clear and obvious” being a part of the rules anyway as it seems ill-defined and too open to personal interpretation or biases.
What made yesterday’s initial yellow card a clear and obvious error as opposed to hundreds of other decisions which are, to my eye, either equally or more obviously clear and obvious errors??
Let’s be honest we’ve all called for the refs to be given the opportunity to rewatch on the screen more and that’s what they did.
Var didn’t fully re-referee the game and immediately advise a red, they sent him to have another watch and make his own call.
The only bit I don’t like is the absolute lack of balls in the PL for them to watch the screen and stick with their original call. In this case it was right not to but I think it’s happened once in 3/4 years of VAR here? Come on.
That and when it’s against us it’s never ’clear and obvious enough’ for them to interfere at all.
True, the issue is just that it’s terribly inconsistent. No issue with them doing more checks like yesterday’s, as long as they actually do that more often.
Appreciate in your final sentence you get at the lack of consistency, so don’t take this as an argument against your post.
