Houssem Aouar

Perhaps, like all our previous best players who were signing new contracts, he was lied to.

Yep. He got so many easy assists that year and people were still praising him like a Ronaldinho/Totti/Bergkamp type magicican after he just made a basic pass. Stats are all that matter.
I’ll always say this - he was hugely underrated in his first season here - carrying so much weight on him in our play, constantly drawing people on himself, keeping the ball under pressure, making clever quick passes, always moving.. After his injury, in 2015 he was never later able to do so much difderence under pressure, in tight areas like before, and generally in one on one situations (dribbling etc) and that made a HUGE difference on his impact on the pitch and the difference he was making but most people only look on the most superficial stats and still rated him even higher than in his first season which is pretty crazy from a proper football standpoint.
I’m pretty sure there are some stat categories to back this up if people want to look beyond meere assists but I can’t bother searching that up.

I went far with Ozil but I just used him as an example.

I think Aouar is more necessary for the team right now than Benrahma but in an ideal world we’d sign both + Partey / a player of Partey’s profile and we’d be infinitely better.

I’m still seething that we never went for Mahrez when we had the chance. Benrahma looks like he could be every bit as good and he’s playing at a level where you could swoop in and make life very difficult for the selling club. Seems we have zero ambition as always though.

Why do people think Auba only signed because of promises made by Arteta on signings.
It was simply the best offer on the table for a striker in his 30s. Nothing else too see here.

Yeah. This is the reason.

Anything else is PR nonsense

What I want to know is, why have we spent the entire summer listing after some guy from Lyon for Ā£50m if we can’t afford Ā£50m?

There are other midfielders in the world. This club continues to astound when you apply even a tiny amount of logic to their decisions

Only logical explanation, besides just being a club run by smooth brain foreheads, is that we don’t really wanna spend the money but want to make the fans think we are trying. I was never a supporter of that conspiracy but my gawd is there any other reasonable explanation?

Put this thread in the bin, mods.

Would rather have the Redcafe Meltdown thread here in its place.

We don’t have a bin. @Leper already moved it away from the Rumour Mill. What more can we do?

Lyon failing to break a team down again, with him in midfield. You wonder if he is the guy to solve our ā€˜breaking teams down’ issues?

Good. Spent way too long lusting after this randomer anyways.

He wanted to come, we just aren’t willing to spend the $$$

That statement is PR fluff

Just spend the effing money
It’s not like we can’t afford it !

Call the thread ā€˜the bin’

Just a reminder to everyone. We know whom to ban once the transfer window closes

Harsh. Samhartjourno is usually very reliable!!!

Another familiar face in the mud again

@A.F bullet dodged. Now I hope we somehow get Partey and somebody who can actually help solve our creative issues properly/play ESR.
