100% agree. Saw enough of what Pepe has to offer in his first season. Takes tme to adjust to a new league and didn’t help that we had 3 managers last season and the team was playing poorly for a lot of the time. I remember when Pires first joined us…his first season was not great and he became a club legend. I am 100% behind Pepe.
Don’t worry, I asked this question before and apparently most of OA watch Ligue 1 every week. And they are all excited. So let’s join in with that excitement.
I know it’s not likely but if we do get this guy I really hope we get Partey still.
I genuinely think we’ll get both. While I think Aouar looks very talented and similar to Santi in his play style I think we’re expecting way too much from a 22 year old for him to come in and improve us drastically.
Partey would change the entire dynamic of our team however.
Agreed. I’m enthused by this, but Partey is the one.
If we can clear out the squad and trigger his release clause, that is the gamechanger.
Enjoy watching Grealish play dirtball with Villa all season since you apparently love watching him play so much.
We’ll all enjoy watching tha God Aouar tear it up for Arsenal while you do.
Well, Torreira and Ceballos all looked incredible on highlights before they joined Arsenal. And I believe Torreira also had ridiculous stats. Sometimes it just doesn’t work and no one really knows why.
That said, I think Aouar will be a success. I don’t know why. But at least I’m sure he can bring some dynamism and creativity to our midfield.
I would love to meet your girlfriend
Edit: that is just to tell her you’re a knob by the way
Edit 2: do I even love Grealish? Did I really say that? I don’t remember
Mi FNJ back at it again. Almost like we’re not going through a pandemic, trapped in our houses
What makes you think he’s Midfield Jesus? I’m not saying you’re wrong, but do you have any reservations about a guy who has only really succeeded playing Choloball coming here on big money when we’re just entering a rebuild?
I got the same impression.
Also, dribbling midfielders usually get overrated quite a bit.
If he’s a great player, then it can’t be because of his passing, because he clearly just doesn’t have the passing technique of a great passer.
Hopefully @Electrifying gives his take still but wouldn’t mind sharing mine if it’s OK…
For starters, the fact that he can squeeze some proper football in a Cholo side is achievement enough.
Anyway, the lad has everything. Pace, power and technique.
It’s been mentioned before but he could pretty much play everywhere in the pitch.
Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he could do a job as a goalie with those massive arms. See? We’ve got our backup keeper sorted.
I guess I just don’t see the sense in spending a lot of money on a guy who doesn’t really solve the creativity problem. He solves the Xhaka problem, for sure, but there are plenty of other players who can play deeper out there who don’t cost a shit ton of money.
A player like him can change the dynamic in midfield in my opinion.
I don’t think we’re looking for purely creative midfielders but moreso well-rounded #8s.
Partey definitely is one for me and Aouar is more of a modern #10 which is pretty much an #8.5.
I should also mention that I don’t think Partey could be coming to replace Xhaka but moreso play with Xhaka.
If I was to make my ideal XI though.
Pure suffer-ball for the opposition.
lmao at Guendouzi being in your dream XI
I’ve always (possibly incorrectly) assumed Partey was more of a 6+ instead of an actual 8 because Choloball doesn’t really have actual creativity. I agree with you that we’re looking for 8+s because there are no such things as 10s in football anymore (RIP Mesut).
I still think our biggest issue is getting more creativity. I’m not sure that I would be able to watch a midfield of Xhaka, Dani and Partey. That’s pretty … functional. A midfield of Xhaka and Partey might be enough to make me give up Arsenal all together. ![]()
Gonna be a pretty underwhelming transfer. Mostly hype, his stats aren’t very impressive whatsoever. Point was made that Torreira was actually a pretty robust stats guy before we bought him but we just used him wrong so he went down the drain. We’ll have to see what Arteta wants to do with him. Probably a long term replacement for Dani.
Solve the Xhaka problem???
Sold!!!
Yeah, I’d love to get rid of Xhaka too, but I’d rather sign Aouar and muddle on with Xhaka and Dani for one more season than have zero creativity in the team.
@BigWeng_4LYFE You see Aouar as a long term replacement for Dani? You don’t think we could tie him down?
But there is no evidence of Aouar being creative.
Just to take one creative stat as an example
Passes into the penalty area:
2017-2018: 0.74
2018-2019: 1.12
2019-2020: 1.06
Reminder that Alexis in his last season was close to 5 and Özil around 3.
He looked handy enough during the UCL.
Maybe I’m just guilty of recency bias. Lyon were great in the UCL, had a bunch of young and exciting players and were in the UCL until basically the end.
